S/O Baby hygiene products...

DS still has cradle cap. Thankfully he's blonde so it is less noticeable. We have used California Baby shampoo and JJ shampoo and he still has it. The amount of scales have certainly decreased over time but is it normal to still be hanging around? Has anyone found a shampoo that lessens the CC? I almost wonder if it is considered dandruff at this point or over active oil glands although his hair does not look greasy at all.

I actually just noticed recently that Julian still has some scales [he is also blonde]. I don't know about products, but I started back using the little scalp scrubber we got in the hospital. I still don't like to scrub the top of his head very hard, and it seems to do a better job than a washcloth.

  • Have you tried putting baby oil on the cradle cap and then using a really fine tooth comb to comb it off?

  • Maybe he just has dry skin.  Have you tried small amounts of olive oil or J&J extra conditioning shampoo (blue bottle)?

  • My three year old had it forever, past age 2. He has super dark hair so it wasn't obvious. Lauren still has it too and she's also blonde.

  • I'd call it dry scalp/dandruff at this point. Have you tried any shampoo that are for "that"?

I know its not dry skin because its yellowish in color which leads me to thinking its over active sebaceous glands. I don't want to use a dandruff type of product because I worry that would dry out his sensitive babyskin too much. I have done the oils and comb thing but it damn near makes his head raw so I try to avoid that.
Ssimon I'm going to look for that JJ shampo thank you!
GoldenTY I didn't know how long having it was the "norm".

  • Yellowish, yeah, I wouldn't say that's dandruff.  What about using a Tea Tree Oil something?

When Aria had it, our ped suggested using a dandruff shampoo twice a week. No more than a pea-sized glob. I wasn't comfortable with that because I was afraid of it getting in her eyes. So, I used olive oil. I put it on her hair and massaged it in her scalp before dinner. Once she was in the bathtub, I combed through her hair a few times, and then shampooed it and combed it again with the shampoo in. It took about a week or so to clear up.

  • Mustela makes a shampoo for it. I noticed the same thing in Landon's hair yesterday. I was putting a dab of coconut oil in his hair for a while (also tames the frizz, since his hair is a tad curly), so I will probably go back to doing that.

I'll have to check this out, thank you!

Lucia still has it. We haven't tried really to get rid of it though. Glad we're not the only ones!

When Nolan had it, the pedi said to use Selsun Blue twice a week.  It really helped and he didn't have any adverse reactions.
