Help please. My 20 month is starting to get into a routine of waking up between 11 and 12 every night. She wakes up fussing and asking to eat. I didn't want to give her food because I didn't want this routine to start but it looks like it has anyways. I think I messed up by giving her a sippy of milk when she wakes up.
I'm trying to knock this habit (she's always been good about sleeping through the night except for when she was teething a lot). I've tried giving her dinner later in the evening and closer to bed time and even a night time snack. And she gets a whole sippy of milk before bed. And tonight I tried giving her water when she woke at 11 but she just kept asking to eat. Milk seems to do the trick. I guess it's thick enough to fill her up. Which is probably why I messed up in the beginning.
So any suggestions? Please and thank you!
Re: 20 month old waking up mid night routine.
This is just my opinion, but maybe she's looking for an excuse to be awake in the middle of the night. I only think that because this morning DS was asking for food when I was putting him down for a nap even after he already had a snack. I think he was just not wanting to go down. Have you tried not giving her anything and seeing if she goes back to sleep on their own? It's better for her digestion at this point anyway if she's not eating until the next morning.
Again, that's just my opinion on the matter. If you think she's legitimately hungry, do what you think is best.
