Coincidence or Other Motives? You Tell Me!!!

I could be on a MIL rant but this really took me by surprise...

So my MIL and I get along because only of my hubby. If it wasn't for him she would not be the type of person I associate myself with.

At my son's Baptism/Dedication reception 2 weeks ago my Aunt mentioned, in front of my MIL and other people in a casual conversation, that she wanted to get the hamper for my son's room. I mentioned to her that she didn't have to since she already purchased his mattress but she insisted that I let her get it so I obliged with great thankfulness. Yesterday I received a text from my MIL asking " Which one do you like for Christopher's room?" attached were two pictures of HAMPERS!!! I was truly taken back because I know she heard every bit of the "hamper" conversation. Not to mention who would think to get a hamper of all things!!! My MIL has visited the house countless times and has been in his room since its been his room and she has NEVER mentioned or hinted getting anything for the nursery. Do you think this is a coincidence or does she have other motives?

    BTW my response to her text was "Hi! My Aunt is getting the hamper for his room. However thank you for the kind gesture." I sent this Thursday afternoon and still no response from her.

    Since I don't know your MIL or how she really is about stuff, I could be way off... But maybe she wasn't really paying attention to the conversation you had with your aunt and only really picked up that you don't have a hamper and may want to get one.  I'd just give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's being nice.  I think your text back was totally appropriate.  I wouldn't read too much into it.

    Taking a break from herbs and just riding the healthy train.  
    Planning medicated cycle end of summer.  FX I get KU before then!!!

    I get where there could be other motives just for the fact that we have family members who try to outdo each other. My MIL wants DS to like her more than my mom so she buys him tons of stuff. Yes, she actually told DH this! ugh! I don't know your family situation though, so who knows.
