Bulking up and not sliming down.

Since I quit BFing DS#2 I've gained about 6 pounds. I finally got my butt in gear and started working out. I've been working out really hard for about two months and have gained 2 pounds. I do a mixture of cardio and weight training.

I do feel like my muscles are growing, but the fat isn't going away on top of it so everything is getting bigger and even my clothes fit tighter in places. I do watch what I eat and have tracked calories off and on, but maybe I need to get more intense about it?

Anyone have any advice? I'm not sure why I am bulking up and not sliming down at all.

Re: Bulking up and not sliming down.

  • When I track I am definitely burning more than I consume, but I don't track everyday. I feel like I am pretty consistent with what I eat though. I currently I am doing zumba 1x per week, weight training class 1x per week, jogging 2x per week and a circuit training class 1x per week.

  • Nix your wheat and dairy intake... that's what helped me show more lean muscle!  The transformation is crazy!  Wheat does nothing but bloat!
  • Like the saying goes, "your abs are made in the kitchen." I would try upping the duration of cardio that you are doing.  But moreover, cut back on your calories.  People lose weight all the time simply by watching what they eat and not exercising.  I'm not saying to stop exercising by any means, but you are probably ingesting too many calories if you aren't losing weight.  Simple- burn more calories, eat less calories.

couldnt agree more! Stop counting calories and instead focus on eating meats, vegetables, and small amounts of fruits, nuts and seeds

Thanks, I'll try this. I've toyed with the idea of doing the whole 30, but I'm not sure if I could make it happen being home with the kids and having to cook separate meals. I don't want to cut my calories even more because I tried 1500 calories per day and when that wasn't working I cut it to 1300. From what I've read, I shouldn't go much below that while working out.

I never went less than 1500 calories while working out

i'd do what PP have said and cut out dairy and wheat. I'm doing a paleo challenge at my gym starting may 13, so that's when I'm going to go for it.  As of now i'm slowly backing off my gluten intake, but still eating dairy and grains.  Also a lot of water and sodium will cut out some of that water weight.
