There was a death threat written in a bathroom at the high school I teach at on Monday. The district has been investigating, but have not identified anyone. The threat was specific about everyone being killed on campus today. We are still having school and there are literally cops everywhere. Some are walking around with dogs and it's just crazy. They estimated that over half of our 1800 students are not even going to show up for class today. I don't know why we just didn't cancel so this circus wouldn't have to take place.
I can't wait for this day to be over already!
Re: well this is going to be an interesting day
Stay safe, hopefully just an empty threat and the extra police presence will deter anyone from actually following through.
After Columbine, my HS had several threats (and I went to a pretty nice HS, in a very nice area), and they never cancelled class. The yr anniversary of Columbine was the worst, they didn't cancel class, but every class was half empty.
This just happened 2 weeks ago in a neighboring district that my friend's kids go to. They sent the kids home early when they found out. It ended up being some kid who did it as a dare...with a sharpie. Naturally, he freaked when he couldn't remove it (duh!). Obviously he's in big trouble.
Probably just an empty threat, but you never know these days. I would be nervous, too!

Yes and I know we have to take all these precautions, but it's just sad all this money and all these resources that are being used today for what is probably a "joke." I teach in a very nice school where we rarely even have fights, so it's a big deal when something like this happens.
Out of my soccer class this morning of 22, I had 4 kids. WOW!
Something like that happened when I was in high school. It was the year after columbine, and it was almost rediculous the amount of security in the form of police PLUS they had parent volunteers in the hallways with walky talkies to escort anyone who needed to move around in between classes (like to go to the bathroom or go to the office or something).
Of course not a thing happened.
But if they did then close schools anytime there was a threat then more kids would make threats to get out of school.
