Changing hours

I want to talk with my boss about changing my hours, I currently work 8:30 - 5 with an hour lunch break and a 45+ commute home. I feel like that leaves me no time in the evening to go to the gym or spend time with DS. I should have asked while on maternity leave, but forgot. I would like to do a 1/2 hour lunch and come in at 8 to leave at 4, but I am not sure how he will feel about that because no one really does that. Any advice? I should probably just go in there and ask.

I would love to know how this goes for you. I have considered the same thing. I would love the head start home. I know the answer to me will most likely be no b/c no one else gets to do it and we need to be fair across the board but it can't hurt to ask right?

I would just ask. Not harp too much on needing more family time, just ask if you can switch to a half hour lunch and work 8-4.

Before I came back to work, I asked my boss the same thing. I explained to him that those hours would be a lot easier. I guess it depends on how your workplace is and whether or not changing hours would affect your job. My boss was totally fine with it, but they try to be pretty family friendly here. I was working 8 - 4:30, which meant I hit so much traffic and it just made my day longer. I now work 7 - 3:30, miss all of the traffic and get home with a few hours to enjoy with DS.
