Hi ladies,
A friend just suggested the No Cry Sleep Solution, and told me it's AP friendly. Before I buy...
- Is it AP friendly? Reading Amazon reviews now, and it seems to be...
- Has anyone used the method successfully? I'm strongly against CIO methods... this doesn't use any similar ideals, does it?
- Is it co-sleeping/bedsharing friendly?
Disclaimer - I am in no hurry to force my child to STTN (as is evident by my post the other day, if you're keeping track). Just interested in ideas and opinions that may help down the road if we need extra support in this area.
Thanks!
Re: No Cry Sleep Solution - Experience?
I would say that this book is AP friendly and also sleep sharing friendly. I have read the who book and did try to do this with my baby (in her own crib). Colic and other issues lead to no success for us. That being said I think that it should work. It does not involve any CIO, it does however talk about learning your babies sounds as we sometimes go to our babies or respond when they are not awake.
1) It is AP friendly
2) I gave it a shot, but we were doing the obvious things and it really didn't help at all.
3) Yes, it's bedsharing friendly.
I'd get it from the library rather than buy it. I didn't really find myself wanting to refer to it much.

Library! Brilliant! Thank you.
I'd agree with pp's that it is a fit with AP. What I also like about the book is that it spends more time discussing why you want to make changes and understanding the pressures you may feel (family, pediatrician, other moms, etc.).
I wouldn't expect it to be a step-by-step plan to fix sleep issues (like Ferber method), but more of a book to help you understand what it going on with your LO and gentle ways to encourage better (or more) sleep.
I also enjoy the HBOTB, so that might be one to peruse or even check out of the library, too!
Pretty sure I have read every single book about baby sleep ever written. Sigh.
Anyhoo, No-Cry Sleep Solution didn't really do much for us. She has some obvious advice, but nothing we could really "use" with our kids. I like Kim West's "Good Night, Sleep Tight" book, which has gentle sleep training methods which are a bit more practical and step-by-step. Also, Dr. Jay Gordan has advice about night weaning (for down the road), and Dr. Sears I think has a sleep book? There's definitely sleep advice in their general Baby Book.

We found it helpful.
We first read it when DD was 4 months old and decided to just leave everything well enough alone. We actually followed through with the recommendations when she was just over a year. It helped us considerably.
