XP: Bright red blood after internal

Bright red blood after an internal exam is normal right? I had an internal this evening and am 2cm dilated, when I got home I had bright red blood in my underwear and on the tissue when I wiped. Since then there has been no blood in the pad I put in and when I wipe there is some light pink spotting. Normal? Or worth a call?

  • I was told that yes, it's normal to spot like that. Anything more than the spotting needs to be addressed asap.

  • It's almost expected to have spotting after an internal. Nothing to worry about if it's only spotting.

Spotting after an internal is normal. However, if it picks up I would call or go right to L D.

  • I have no idea, I'm sure it's normal but if it continues call!

But, what I really wanted to post about was that I'm only a day behind you and you saying you're 2 cm dilated is awesome/crazy/exciting/scary! I know it doesn't mean much because we can stay dilated like that for a bit, but that's exciting news. Did you expect to be dilated; have you noticed contractions?

  • Like most PP said.... spotting is normal after internal. My doc said not to worry if it happened. If it persists I'd call though.

I had contractions earlier today so I called and went in to get monitored. I continued w contractions while there but they weren't as painful and baby looked good on HB monitor and u/s so they sent me home. Since I'm 2 cm dilated and not 37 weeks yet I'm not allowed to go back to work until I am and need to stay off my feet. It's definitely exciting and scary. My H came home from work and immediately packed his hospital bag lol.

Anyway thanks ladies! I ended up calling and she said its fine as long as it doesn't fill a pad and now that it's pink it should stay pink and not turn back to red. Baby is moving up a storm also!

  • I had the same thing. The dr said it was ok and common when your cervix drops .. Mine apparently was pretty low.
