Beta Hell :(

Ladies,

This will be my last post until this either comes to an end or some miracle happens.  I had my fourth draw today and my beta went from 115 on Monday to 186 (69.2 hours doubling time.)  My progesterone is 68!  The RE RN said that I could have implanted two embies, lost one, and the singleton is trying to catch up.   But, she said it is not looking like a viable pregnancy.

Does anyone know why my progesterone would be so high if this was a failing pregnancy?  I always thought that high progesterone was a great sign for pregnancy.   I am in complete limbo and dread having to go back AGAIN on Friday for another damn draw.  This just plain sucks.  

The RN also said that this might be ectopic.  I have not had any bleeding, no pain, and only very minor cramping.  Wouldn't I know if this pregnancy is ectopic?  I scared about this b/c we leave for CA on 5/11 for 2 weeks and I don't want to be confronted with surgery away from home.   

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Crap.  I was hoping your betas were going in the right direction when they went to 115.  Can they do a scan to check to see if it is ectopic?  I am so sorry you are stuck in this position.  Saying a prayer for you.

    I asked about an u/s to determine if it is ectopic and she said they would not see anything.  I did not know about a scan nor did she mention one.   So are you saying that they could do a scan to rule ectopic out?

    I had an iui with two mature follicles.  My betas went like this:  25 (11dpiui), 46 (13dpiui), 41 (15dpiui), 68 (18dpiui), and 174 (21dpiui).  It was a wait and see kind of thing.  My OB had given up, but my RE was cautiously optimistic.  Two weeks later, we had one heartbeat.  My RE couldn't explain it other than maybe two eggs were fertilized, but only one grew.  Now, I am 15w3d and I just saw the baby wiggling around on an ultrasound this past Sunday.  Everything has been good so far.  I hope that things turn around for you.  I know how hard beta hell can be.

    UGH...it sucks that you are in limbo, the not knowing is so difficult!  There are so many here that are praying for you.  Hopefully you can draw some strength from that, lord knows you need it.

    Ugh!!!! Maybe I am trying to be sunshine and roses but your #s continue to rise albeit slowly. I would have a hope for the best but prepare myself for the worst attitude because right now you still are pregnant. Just looked up this site for some info about Ultrasounds and etopic pregnancies and it had some good info you may want to check out https://www.advancedfertility.com/ectopic.htm I know when I saw my RE when I was pregnant with my 1st he did US from the moment I found out I was pregnant. Every time I had a blood draw He would do a Trans Vag US and would measure my lining, measure my uterus, and check for signs of a growing baby. We saw the beginnings of the sac (what he called a cheerio) then fetal pole, then baby and heartbeat. I just assumed that other REs did the same thing. Every week I had a Us to update on progress. Please keep us posted I know how hard this is. We are pulling for you!!!!

    I thought they could do an internal sonogram to check. My first internal ultrasound was at six weeks to confirm where the baby implanted. We were surprised with two and saw heartbeats too. I cannot see your siggy while mobile bumping but I thought you may be close.

    I am sorry to read the you still don't have clear answers.  Hope that your stay in Beta hell is short.  Will be praying for you have clear answers soon.
    TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. New RE 9/2011. IVF 2.2 completed using HGH,EPP,DHEA, Q-10 and accupuncture. Transferred one 8-cell, grade one embryo on 10/19. BFP 10/31/11 Chemical pregancy on 11/2/11. Started stims for IVF #3, our final try, on 12-2-11. ET on 12/18. Transferred 3 Grade A embryos-BFFN Planning DE IVF, late March/early April- Donors ER expected to be 4/2-4/4. PAIF/SAIF welcome

    So sorry you still don't have answers, ugh!! I'm not sure why your progesterone would be so high if the pregnancy wasn't viable unless it was ectopic, but if you did have two and you lost one your body could be just trying to figure it all out. It sucks that it's too early for an ultrasound...my doc would be doing one anyway just to take a good look in there but I guess yours doesn't want to bother until your numbers are high enough. I am keeping fingers crossed for you! Hoping things will turn around and your numbers start to climb! Hugs!!

    So sorry you didn't get more definitive answers with your beta draw, I think all you can do is wait and try to remain optimistic. There are alot of stories like this that turned out great. In regards to the progesterone I would probably have to agree with your RE's RN that you released more than one follicle. Each follicle produces progesterone so the more follicles you release theoretically the higher your progesterone will be. I had this happen to me during a natural cycle bfp, and we confirmed I had released 3 follicles.

    Were you on any fertility meds? That's a very high progesterone with a beta under 1000. I don't think they can determine whether it's viable or not without doing an internal U/S. Good luck!

    I don't know about the progesterone question but i had a similar experience with betas as the previous poster. My first draw was good second had gone up but no where near doubled. Third one dropped and I was told it was not a viable pregnancy.

    Then the next week when I assume they were checking to see where I was in the miscarriage process, my numbers did not double but came pretty close. Two days later, the same thing and then four days later they had completely doubled. The only explanation that was given was that I more than likely had two but lost one. I am holding out hope for you.
