I was but on strick bed rest 3 weeks ago for a shortened cervix and starting to dialate. After a week on strict I was taken off of strict to modified in which I can run a few errands and do light house work but not to return to work as I work on my feet. Now my short term disability sees this as a why can't I work and wants all my limitations to be spelled out to see if I can go back to work even less then I already was. If I do go back it will be very limited and will probably loose my insurance because I work hourly and have to qualify by the quarter and have been out for almost the first third which would be really hard to make up. Did anyone else have to deal with this the main reason I am really concerned is because my husband is self employed so I am the one who maintains the insurance so losing my entire income and insurance will be rough especially with adding twins to the mix. Any advice I am currently 29 weeks a could just file for my FMLA but that gives me almost no time after the boys are born.
Re: Bed rest vs Short term Disability
Make a pregnancy ticker
Can't your dr. just write a note saying you can't work? If I told my dr that I couldn't work b/c it would be too much, he'd write a note in an instant that would qualify me for STD.
FWIW, I'm surprised you were taken off strict bedrest when your cervix was shortening and starting to dilate. I was put on strict bedrest and given a cerclage for almost the same thing, and that was just for a singleton pregnancy, starting at 20w. I'm now 32w and still on strict bedrest. With my twin pregnancy, I was put on strict bedrest at 22w for shortening cervix and no funneling or dilation (this included 4 weeks of hospital bedrest when my cervix got below 2). I delivered at 36w4d. Be sure you really talk this through with your dr. Are you seeing an MFM/peri or just an OB?
Good luck!
I would find a new doctor.....probably at a high risk clinic. This is something that should be monitored very closely!
As far as your original question: FMLA and short term are running concurrently for me. I went from strict bed rest, to the ability to work 20 hrs a week. Every hour I'm out (20 hours) counts against my FMLA time.
Good luck!
