August 2012 Moms

You ladies are smart.

Plus googling or basically anything on my phone sucks to do. And with the Internet out at my house my phone has to suffice.
Situation: I want to naturally lower my bp. I am going to start meticulously cutting sodium down/out of my diet because my mom told me that will help, I also know exercising can help which I have started taking walks at night after Aiden's bath before bed. Not too strenuous but enough to get up my heart rate some while I am doing it.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Along the lines of cutting sodium, my advice would be to reduce/eliminate processed foods.  Food that comes in a box/can/package is much more likely to be high in sodium.
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks) BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy) BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy) BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12) BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)

  • Bananas and spicy foods naturally lower BP. Running is supposed to help, hard to do KU, though. Cut out pop if you can and drink lots of water.

This too. Again, hard to make everything from scratch with a LO and KU but cutting some processed food out would be a great help.

I did not know that about bananas and spicy food. I will have to try that. I am also attempting to do more "from scratch" meals. The pop will be harder but I am going to try working on it.

Poppy did soda cold turkey. Ask her how it's going, maybe.

  • You should look into trying the paleo diet. My husband had the same issue plus high cholesterol and both have drastically changed. It is a way of life for us now not just a diet.
  • I would second the cut out any processed foods but not necessarily cut out all the sodium. There is research that shows that sodium does not effect blood pressure as much as you think!

Start shopping the outer aisles of your grocery store, if it comes in a box you can probably make it yourself and make it healthier. Also consider taking up yoga or other forms of exercise. My blood pressure is finally coming back down now that I added a rigorous exercise schedule. It feels AWESOME.
