  If it's a coworker in your office can you just bring in a cake or some pastries or something and do a brief celebration in the office along with a card?

  Other token gifts for a male coworker -- a cigar, a starbucks giftcard, some quality chocolate...

  Thanks all... I am planning to take him to lunch, just was thinking of some small token esp since there is a good chance he will be leaving us in the future.... He is watching food stuff so I am going to stay away frm food and drink...

  I like the book idea! Or along the same lines as a name plate, maybe a nice business card holder. I guess it depends on what type of law he plans on practicing, but maybe some cufflinks or something, I know he's not a judge, but gavel ones or if they have a pair of scales. I don't know, I'm just reaching now.

  I like the cufflinks idea, he will be using them dressing up and you can find them for very cheap even personalized on eBay.  You might check out Things Remembered - someone once got me an letter opener with my initials engraved on it.
