XP: Mucus in poop at 6 weeks?

I assume that since we talked about our own mucus on TTCAL and PGAL I don't need a TMI disclaimer to talk about my kid's mucus. ;)

Zuzu is 6 weeks today and I noticed a fair amount of mucus in her poopy diaper. She is EBF. I did a quick google search and found it may be a milk allergy? (I hope this is not the case.) She has been congested with a cold for about a week; could that have anything to do with it? Should I call the pedi? Just keep an eye on it? TIA!

Re: XP: Mucus in poop at 6 weeks?

  • My first guess was going to be a milk allergy.  DS had one and it sucked to cut out all milk, but it did help.  It could also be from the cold as lots of snot can cause mucous in poop.  Since she's so little, I'd call the nurse line and see what they think.  Newborns tend to get more attention than say a 1 year old on things, so they may want to see her just to be sure.

Thanks for your responses, ladies. I just got off the phone with my pedi's nurses' line, and she was not concerned, especially because of her nasal congestion. She said not to change anything for now and to keep an eye on her poops and her temperament. She hasn't seemed sick, so I guess she's okay for now! Thanks again.

DS was an mspi baby too and our first symptom was mucous at 5 weeks. He did end up having specks of blood as well. Given the cold this could be part of it. If she is otherwise ok than I'd prob wait to see if it resolves when the cold does

  • My DD had mucus in her poop when she had a cold at about 7 weeks and it went away when she got better. She does still have an occasional diaper with mucus here and there when she is extra drooly from teething but no other problems and her ped isn't concerned.
