N *really* BR - Frustrated with Drs.

So, about 6 months ago I was looking through my old medical records online, and saw that on one of them from when i had a CT or MRI or whatever for kidney stones that I had an ovarian cyst, and that my primary care physician should follow up with and monitor. This was from almost 5 and a half years ago now. So, immediately I freaked out because I had never even been told of the cyst, let alone had any follow up done on it. So I go to the DRs office, but my PCP isnt there, so they have me see a different dr, who basically tells me it's nothing to worry about if I haven't had any symptoms and blah blah blah. But I'm still worried, so I request to have my dr call me as soon as she gets back. She does and to ease my mind she orders me to have an US to look into it. I looked at the screen, and while I haven't been trained as to whats what, I know I saw something on the screen that looked like it shouldnt have been there.

Anyway, Dr. calls me and tells me there's no cyst and nothing to worry about, so I convince myself that I was just seeing things and I'm not trained etc etc.

BUT THEN. After my NT scan, mr OB went over the results with me. And what does she mention? AN OVARIAN CYST THE EXACT SAME SIZE AND LOCATION OF THE ONE FROM MY ORIGINAL PAPERWORK! WTF.

So now, obviously there's nothing wrong with it, it hasn't ruptured or anything, but I am so PISSED! Like, how can you tell me there was nothing there, and low and behold there's actually, what common sense would tell us, the exact same one since its the same size (I mean down to the mm) and on the same ovary.

Somebody isn't doing their job, and that frustrates the hell out of me. /End rant.

  • I have had cysts allllll my life. They come and go, sometimes they are there, sometimes they are not, and the only thing you need to worry about is if they cause you any pain or you bleed mid-cycle. Don't get frustrated!

I agree the above.  If they haven't told you there is reason to be concerned I wouldn't be. I've gotten them my whole life and my initial reaction is you are lucky you haven't had symptoms with the cysts.  Those things can really hurt when they pass!  As for it being in the same location and all it doesn't mean it's the same exact cyst.  I always got them in the same ovary in the same area.  Mine never got large enough to require surgery so they looked the same.  Good luck.

  • Cysts are good and bad. They are annoying but if u have them ur chance of cancer is much lower than those that don't get them. My family has them everywhere and we haven't had any cancer in our family, not even lung cancer from smoking.
  • Yes I agree with previous posters.  Cysts can look the same as before but it is likely not the same cyst as previously found.  Also, my OB said it is incredibly normal to have a cyst during pregnancy.  I was a little worried but she told me that before your placenta takes over it is actually a sign of a healthy pregnancy and it helps keep the fetus viable by producing progesterone.
