Transition to milk and sippy cups

LO will be 1 in a week. He is on Nutramigen because he had gas and stomach issues early on.  We still don't know if he has an allergy to cows milk or not.  He eats yogurt and cheese and eggs.   We have been practicing with the sippy cup for a while, he does ok, not great.

Looking for advice.  Did you quit bottles cold turkey?  How about the switch from formula to milk?  How many ounces of milk do they take a day.  Just looking for advice :). Thanks!

Re: Transition to milk and sippy cups

  • My LO had the same issues and was on Nutramigen.  I tried cow's milk to see if he would take it alone (my friend had to mix formula and milk together until her LO got used to the milk).  He did!!!!  I did bottles since he was a little slow to drink out of a sippy as well.  Now I am slowly putting milk in a sippy for some of his milk intake.  My doctor said 18-20 ounces of milk.

  • We slowly mixed milk in with the formula over 2 weeks.  It worked.  You might also want to try the Munchkin sippy cups with the spout that they sip on.  It's similar to a bottle (& an easier transition) & it doesn't spill.

I was told that the transition to sippy cups and the trransition to milk are two separate things.  My son is not super good yet with the sippy so we give him a sippy with a soft top with water for now.  However as of last week we started transitioning him to milk but I do this in a bottle.  So he has had 50/50 formula/milk. As of this weekend he will be full milk and no formula but still in a bottle. Once he has mastered the sippy cup we will move to putting milk in that but I think there were too many changes being made so for us it was one thing at a time.
