Bottles - wait and see what he likes before I stock up?

I want to register for bottles and corresponding breast pump accessories, but my first problem is that I have to find out which breast pump my insurance covers and secondly, what if he doesn't like the bottles I pick out! Should I get 1 or 2 of several brands to see which he will take? I'm hesitant to register for those bottle kits with all those accessories and warmers, etc if he for some reason won't use them. What do you think? Thanks!

  • I would buy in single packs, but with that being said, people like giving the boxed sets. They are usually a better value and have additional items.

  • I registered for a 2 pack of bottles, I think. I wanted to make sure we had something on hand in case we couldn't BF. We bought more of the same kind once we saw that he was fine with them. I wouldn't register for a large gift set because you just don't know what LO will like.

  • I got a 3 pack of Tommie Tippie bottles and she took them easily. After that, a good girlfriend of mine let me borrow 3 of hers and we have plenty.

FWIW, when we first started to introduce the bottle, my pedi warned that some babies have a bottle strike after a while, but she said to just be patient and just keep offering the same bottle and not to go out a buy a bunch of different types just to try. Be patient and consistent before confusing the situation more with tons of different nipples.

  • I wouldn't buy too many. I took us 6x time find what bottle worked for DD since nursing didn't work.
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

  • I'd just register for one brand.  Only open one package.  If they don't seem to take to that bottle type, you can always return the other packages for store credit and use the credit to buy a different bottle.  If you don't register for enough bottles, you're going to wind up coming out of pocket for the rest of them... just a thought.
