So I have been having the hardest time getting DS to sleep all night. The past few weeks, he has been also giving me a hard time with eating dinner. He much rather throw food at the dogs than actually eat. If doesn't want we are eating for dinner, I try and make him something I know for sure he likes, like eggs or oatmeal, but still he's just picking at his food, and he will drink 5 oz before bed.
Yesterday, he actually ate very well for dinner. We been giving him vitamins and I completely found to mix it with dinner, so around 7 I gave him yogurt with his vitamins. 7:45pm he drank 3 oz. and passed out...and he slept all night!
Could he be waking up because he's actually hungry? Is snack before bedtime a bad thing and I shouldn't start another bad habit?
Re: snack before bedtime?
ok. I don't want him to expect it either, but we do have some nights when he refuses dinner.
thanks
Just a glimpse into the future...
I think our little guys are too young to go to bed hungry, but we just had a 2.5 yr well visit for my big girl and we've been dealing with some super picky eating, specifically with dinner. Our pedi cautioned us that by making LO something else, we are reinforcing that if she doesn't get what she wants, we'll offer something else. In addition, she said the list of foods they WILL eat will get shorter and shorter. Now, I don't want to make my kids eat everything on their plate, but I would like her to try what we give her and at least have a couple bites. I think your idea of offering a snack if LO doesn't have dinner is good for now. I just like to share this because we are currently stuck in a chicken nugget rut, and suffering through the adjustment of not making a second dinner (and thus a hungry, cranky toddler). I used to have a really good eater and then she was a picky toddler and baby #2 came, we got a little lax and got into some bad habits. I think it is good to just be mindful.
thanks for this! I will definitely keep this in mind. I definitely don't want to start something that is going to just create a food monster later..LOL. Usually he's a pretty good eater and not very picky. He doesn't give DC a hard time at all with bfast, snacks, and lunch. I think I am going to try and just feed him whatever we have for dinner, and if I feel like he doesn't eat enough, maybe offer little snack 30min later. But I don't want to start more habits that will be hard to manage and break later.
thanks so much!
Not sure what your schedule is, but we have given a bed time snack everyday since we stopped doing a bedtime bottle at 12 mo.
DD eats dinner at 4 then has a bedtime snack at 6:45. Bed at 7.
