Sleep question...

Can you/should you sleep train while in the middle of a wonder week? I'm not opposed to CIO however, hubby is.....

Parker is typically and amazing sleeper, so I don't like to complain when he has an off night, as I know some LOs don't sleep we'll at all! But the last two weeks have been rough and this past week even worse!

He wakes several times and just screams! He stands and full on screams. I used to be able to just lay him down again and rub his back for a few minutes and that was enough, but not anymore. The only thing he wants is for me or DH to hold him.  When we do take him out, his head goes right on our shoulder and he goes back to sleep (until he wakes again).

Question: I'm afraid that if we keep giving in and picking him up he'll get used to this and start a bad habit....thoughts? Or is this something that will solve itself after the WW is over?

As I posted last night, he just started walking, so I know that is the real culprit here!

any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!

Re: Sleep question...

  • I would give it some time as hard as it is. He just can't seem to turn his little mind off right now especially with learning to walk. DS is not walking yet but he did go through something similar last month where he continuously woke up several times a night and cried. H or I would go in each time to rock him back to sleep and put him back in his crib. At the time I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel either.
But that's just my thought. Personally I don't think I would sleep train if I knew he was going through some kind of developmental milestone.

That's my thinking as well.  I'm just so nervous that picking him up everytime to rock him will create a bad habit Tongue Tied

i feel the same way but then i think he is only this little for so long and i will be wishing this time back to rock him to sleep. i will definitely have to sleep train him at some point in the future but for now, i am trying to enjoy the time... don't get me wrong, it sucks! and i am TIRED. super tired! but, i am trying to just ride out this 10 month mark. :)

Whenever Jess goes through a developmental milestone or is getting teeth, her sleep gets all effed up. Sometimes it lasts for a few weeks, sometimes its a few days. I just try to tough it out because I know that once it passes she'll go back to sleeping through the night again. I might try to see if you can wait it out and let him get through this milestone. Good luck!

Thanks!  I was thinking that things will go back to normal on their own once he passes this milestone.... I'll do what everyone says and just comfort him through this process for now!  Fingers crossed :)
