I had my last ob appt before my RCS on Monday. First, the office was technically closed because of a power outage so they couldn't even see me in that office. No one called because they had no computers or phones.
Second, the office manager heard me tell the front desk it was my last appt and csection was scheduled with Dr N on Monday. She came up to me and told me he had an emergency and won't be in hospital for at least a week and they don't know who is covering. This is when I start freaking out because everything was planned and I wasn't expecting this at all!
She called dr to find out if he knew who was covering and he talked to me, told me everything would be fine blah blah.
Problem is, I didn't meet most of docs in office because I knew I would have RCS. I basically had panic attack in office! I'm not normally like this but I'm so close and didnt expect it.
Finally, they figured out the replacement doc and I met her. She's nice enough but very new. Just finished residency. Now I'm freaking out more! I picked my doc because he is very experienced. I'm scared. It is major surgery, after all.
Anyone have csection with a newer doc? Would you schedule for another day?
I've been crying on and off all day because I'm so nervous now. I really wasn't before.
Sorry this is so long and crazy!
Re: Last minute doc change...freaking out
As a resident's wife, I can tell you that by the time they finish their program (usually 4-5 years) they are very well equipped to do standard procedures, and even not-so-standard procedures. My husband is just finishing his last year in residency and has been cutting people's eyes since he was an R2.
Indeed, the fact that she is new often means they are up-to-date on the newest and up-to-date techniques, as well as very well-versed in the latest research. That being said, I too will be having a RCS, and will be selecting my doctor and will be pretty put out if they changed things last minute like that so I totally get how you feel! And I asked for a doctor who has the most experience, so I get not feeling 100% comfortable with someone new. Bottom line - you'll be in good hands either way, this is a very standard procedure. Good luck!
I agree with the bolded. I totally understand your anxiety, but I find residents are often so keen because they are new that they do a good job. They haven't had time to develop shortcuts, KWIM? I'm sure your doctor trusts this woman to fill in for him. You'll do just fine
1 - No matter how experienced my new doc was, I would be freaked out by a last-minute change like that.
2 - With that said, I agree that your new doc is more than qualified to perform your RCS.
3 - I'd still be freaked out by the last minute change.
4 - Everything WILL be fine. Like ShanAdo said, ::deep breaths::
Funny you should mention it, because after I typed it, I thought "I wonder if she's tired of it"
