Phenergan

Anybody taking phenergan for m/s?  I'm hesitant to take it because it's a Category C drug and because it's supposed to make you sleepy.  Zofran isn't helping my nausea, so my doctor prescribed this.  If you've taken it, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Re: Phenergan

  • I've taken it not pregnant before. It knocked me out! Don't expect to stay up long after taking it. I'm not sure I would take it while pregnant, but then again, I don't have the morning sickness you are having :

  • It makes me sleepy. Did you express your concerns about taking it to your doctor?

  • I don't take it for m/s, but I've taken it for migraines in the past and it has really helped and it actually doesn't make me sleepy at all. I had the prescription still so I asked the doctor and he said it was fine to take 25 mg if I needed to. I prefer not to take anything but my prenatal if I can avoid it, so I've just been drinking gingerale and its kept the queasiness under control. So far I have been pretty lucky and it hasn't been bad yet.
  • My doc gave me zofran and phenergan to take when zofran didn't work. I took it my first pregnancy and it worked great. Maybe try half a tab and see how well it works that way for you before trying a full dose.

  • I took it in my last pregnancy only once. I took either 1/2 or 1/4 and had to call in to work the next day bc I was so drugged I couldn't even walk hardly. It REALLY knocked me out! Be careful! Maybe try taking it on a Friday night when you don't have to work the next day so that if you're super drowsy you won't have to call in...

Exactly this.  I preferred the Phenergan over the Zofran as far as relieving morning sickness.  I was afraid of it but I needed to stop puking!  It helped.  Does make you sleepy-but for me it wasn't debilitating sleepiness.  DD is healthy as can be.

It took the nausea away but made me unable to function - it didn't wear off until noon the next day

I am allergic to it. It is my only allergy.

  • I'm guessing it works different for everyone, as I'm on a fab cocktail of zofran, phenergan, AND reglan. Phenergan works the best for me; reglan gives me the jitters. I'm supposed to take one every 2 hours to keep my constant nausea at bay, but it doesn't always help : its hard having to get up and go to work everyday too. Anyway, is say give it a shot but take it around 7pm or earlier just in case it does knock you out, it'll give you time to sleep it off. In my opinion, I'd rather sleep as much as possible, since I don't feel sick while I'm sleeping! Good luck! This all day sickness makes it so hard I'm 6w5d
