I have a strange brag

Our dinner was about 1 for a family of 4.

H killed the deer which was ground for spaghetti meat, we grew the peppers onions and tomatoes that were in the sauce, but we still had to buy the pasta.

Has to be the cheapest meal I've ever made

  • I like venison.  How was it with the sauce?

  • I don't mind deer meat, but it smells something awful while being cooked (especially ground).

That's awesome your meal was so inexpensive.  I don't think my H will be bringing home any game in the near future, though.

Do you soak it in buttermilk or anything to get the gamey taste out? I still have a deep freezer full of deer steaks and ground meat because I hate having to soak it for 24 hrs to get that taste out.

I've never done it. I'm sure the game flavor varies by region. Our deer are typically kind if small. If I'm making steaks I marinade them forever before cooking. But for ground I just get right to it

so you grind your own meat? Do you have a standalone meat grinder? Or something else.

I am asking for the meat grinding attachment to the Kitchenaid mixer for Mother's Day.

We have an LEM grinder. I want to say its the 5 but I'm not sure

  • I love deer meat, we eat a lot of it! I love putting deer roast in my vegetable soup! It's way better then actual beef roast!
  • Good for you! Deer meat is one if the purest (and cheapest) forms of organic eating :) adding veggies from your garden just adds to it. I'm jealous of your garden!
