On PAIF there was a "how to get the favored fluffy going to adjust to the new baby" post about once a month. Many of us cited our furry baby as a source of love/comfort/distraction/sanity during your struggles with IF. So how is it going with your beloved pet?
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby?
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)?
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
Has your house become a restriction zone?
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason?
Re: Furbaby check-in
Our dog loves DS! Although he does occasionally hit her and she just scoots off to her escape for a while.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brothers or sisters?
DS calls for our dog every morning when he wakes up and when DS is crying she can always get him to smile! If that isn't love, I don't know what is.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
I recently taught DS to scoop food in her bowl. He always notices when it's empty because he loves to feed her. So now I have a little reminder.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
Our dog has definitely been neglected since DS but luckily my brother in law and cousin live with us rent free and part of their duties are to walk our dog.
Has your house become a restriction zone?
Nope, she has free range
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason?
Nope
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby? Our dog LOVES baby, she's very attentive. Our cat could care less.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brothers or sisters? She doesn't notice yet.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals? Yes!
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc? Nope, DH is great about running with the dog and i try to be attentive to both.
Has your house become a restriction zone? We tried making the dog sleep downstairs but that didnt happen.
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason? The cat loves baby's crib, so that's going to be off limits soon!
i love this post.
my kitties have done remarkably well with LO. I'm floored. They are very interested in her. Come to see what's up when she cries, peer over her bassinet and car seat etc.
baby is too young to comprehend the cats so far. Lets just hope there are no allergies that develop!
ummmmm, DH does most of the feelings but yes, they are eating.
They still get attention but not as much, what's been awesome about them is rather than resent us - they just happily accept it when they can get it!
No restriction zone and no re-homing of pets!

So how is it going with your beloved pet?
We have two dogs and they are good. Not getting near as much attention these days but they've adjusted well.
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby?
My beagle has been curious since day one. When H cries, my beagle looks at him then comes to us like help him! Our other dog (pit/lab mix) would not even stay in the same room as him at first, then she would only leave if H cried. Now she stays no matter what's going on but she still doesn't like the crying.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)?
H hasn't really noticed them, he's not old enough to really interact yet. I'm sure one of these days I'll catch him on the pit/lab's back or tugging at the beagle's ears.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
Yep! DH feeds them every morning and I feed them at night.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
We've never really walked them, they run like crazy in the back yard. Snuggles aren't as frequent but we make time most days for them.
Has your house become a restriction zone?
No restrictions. We didn't want to disrupt their normal and freak them out even more. They've been great!
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason?
No rehoming, not even temporarily.

So how is it going with your beloved pet?
We are doing pretty well. I keep telling my 15lb terrier to be patient because solids are going to be awesome. She is bummed out that she isn't the sole focus of my attention, but I pay a lot of attention to her when DH is holding J. I've been feeding her more table scraps to over compensate.
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby?
Curious and protective. She loves to lick J and I let her except for the face. She stayed glued to us the first two weeks, in bed with us and everything. She is allowed in bed with us, but usually only stays to cuddle.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)?
It is a bit early for a whole lot of interaction, but J loves pooch kisses. They even stop her crying! She loves watching our pooch chase the ball or do worm fits.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
Mostly
my pooch is a picky eater and often shows no interest in her pooch food (which we mix with wet food). I hate wasting it since it dries into a hard block if uneaten. I'm pretty good at reoffering to make her food later if she gets hungry.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
Pooch still gets two walks a day. We have a doggy door and a yard, but she prefers to do business on our walks. J usually come with in a stroller or carrier. We don't play as much ball as we used to (as it is loud if J is sleeping), but she gets lots of cuddles.
Has your house become a restriction zone?
Nope. Free roaming pooch over here!
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason?
Nah, it is working out better than expected.

What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby? Love. They LOVE him, especially my younger dog.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)? Their love is mutual. He'll go up to them for a kiss and one of his first words was "dog".
Do you remember to feed/water your animals? Yep. 6am and 6pm every day including meds.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc? I was never good about walks, but we have a big yard. They get plenty of snuggles and toys and playtime.
Has your house become a restriction zone? Nope. I joke that my son's first solid food was dog hair.
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason? Absolutely not.

How fun!
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby?
We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Now that E has figured out how to feed the dogs from the high chair, they like her much more! One cat mostly ignores E, but the other is extremely tolerant of E and let's her "pet" him and pull his tail and ears. He calmly walks away when he's had enough.
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)?
E adores her fur-siblings. She loves to try to chase the cats around the house. She looks for the dogs as soon as she wakes up, and squeals in delight when she sees them or when they lick her.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
We don't have the kind of pets that would let you forget. Besides, the dogs probably get half of their calories from E's high chair.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
They certainly don't get as much attention as they used to. But we try to take them to do special things sometimes since they don't get as much daily attention. One of the cats sits in my lap while I'm nursing E and cuddles with us.
Has your house become a restriction zone?
Nope. We try to keep the pets out of E's room to keep it a little cleaner. But they have free range the rest of the house.
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason?
Nope. And I would go to great lengths to try to fix whatever issues we might have before I would consent to rehoming.

Pooch is more and more curious about LO. He keeps trying to lick him with a wet beard.
Our LC said babies cry when they are put down because its a survival thing... A mammal left on the ground as a baby would be eaten by a grizzly bear. So now we joke that LO thinks of our dog as the grizzly we allow in our house.
DH is doing all pooch care at the moment. But no we don't forget. Pooch goes and noses the cupboard his food is in and barks if we are even 10min late on providing it. He is not a subtle dog.
DH does all of the walking right now too, but he still gets two 45 min walks a day. He is too high energy a dog to not get them. I am trying to go on the evening ones.
Pooch is still a puppy and fairly destructive and mischievous so our home was already pretty restricted for him before LO came. Nothing has changed in that regard but he does spend more time in his crate now as I can't supervise him adequately when feeding LO. Having pooch is definitely limiting the tummy time LO gets too.
What is pooch or kitty's attitude towards baby?
We also have a desert tortoise, who lives outside. He doesn't have much opinion on anything.
We have a very big (188 lb) Mastiff, Apollo, and two kitties. Apollo loves Grayson and wants to lick him all over. Both kitties like to rub on Grayson, but don't hang around for long when he starts trying to pet them
Does baby like their canine or feline big brother(s) or sister(s)?
Grayson LOVES his fur siblings! He squeals and shrieks when he sees the kitties or Apollo. He also enjoys watching Tom the tortoise cruise around his pen.
Do you remember to feed/water your animals?
Of course. DH feeds the kitties and I feed Apollo.
Do your pets still get their walks/snuggles/rides/etc?
We make time for everyone! But the furkids do have to share that time with Grayson now.
Has your house become a restriction zone?
Have you rehomed your pets due to inability to adjust or some other reason? We just moved into a new house. The kitties have free roam of the house, but Apollo stays downstairs. He sheds more hair, year-round, than any dog I have ever seen or heard of. He is getting older and going up/down stairs is not good for him.
Nope.
