Looks like the stairs are no longer safe

DS was behind in crawling and out of no where he is a crawling machine which is great but now he's on turbo. I caught him climbing up our stairs. The problem and question is how do I baby gate it? There is a railing on one side and the solid wall on the other. If I go on to the first step I could run a gate from the wall to the banister but its really curvy and thin and I dont see it holding the gate well. Is there anyone with a similar set of stairs that can give advice on gating them or making them safe?

We did not really use gates but our basement steps at the bottom are impossible to gate even if I wanted to. One side is a wall and the other is like a vanishing banister made out of what was a wall by the time to get to the bottom it is gone so nothing to hook it unless we did it up high what would defeat the purpose. If you are only concerned about the bottom you could put a pack n play in front of the steps while he is playing and just keep a close eye on him. If it is the type of house where the steps are going down to the bottom level from the main-level, such as a spit level house, and you are concerned about him falling down the steps you can buy a connecter or zip tie a board to the banister and drill into the board. A lot of gates have special kits for banisters.
