Two Under 2

tell me about your cars

About to have 2 under 2 for the second time.  We are now in the market for a new car.  I need to fit 3 car seats and have easy access to them.  A third row would be great if it is easy to access because I will not have any children who are capable of buckling themselves in/out.  We went to the car show in NYC specifically to check out minivans a few weeks ago.  Our 2 favorites were the Honda Odyssey because it can fit 3 carseats in a row in the second row and the Dodge Grand Caravan (which is also the Chrysler Town & Country) because it has a seat in the 2nd row that folds into the floor allowing easy access to the 3rd row (thinking we'd put 2 carseats back there and one in the 2nd row).  We also need to be able to fit a stroller and often other "gear" in the trunk.  We travel frequently so trunk space is a must.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cars that they LOVE that easily fit 3 carseats in places that are easy to access and have tons of trunk space?  I'd love to consider other options.
Thanks in advance!!

  • I have a Honda Odyssey, and I love it. The space is great, I like that I could put all three in the middle or mix it up with two in the back one in the middle etc. Number 3 isn't due until December but so far with two its very comfortable and the trunk space is really nice as well as the extra storage it has. Plus the way it drives is very nice, more like a car and has great horsepower.

  • We have the Audi Q7. It's very practical for our needs with 3 under 3 on the way... Of course it's also very pricey unless you can et a food deal on a used one like we did. Ours is 6 years old but still feels like a new car with all the functionality we wanted.

  • We got a Grand Caravan a year ago and love it!  We folded down the middle seat behind the driver and installed the carseats in the second and third rows on the passenger side.  It's great to have the extra floor space for diaper changes, and we still have the stow-and-go in front of the passenger side captain's chair available.  We currently have two strollers in the trunk (a graco travel system and city mini) so there is plenty of space. The only problem you may encounter with this configuration is that the latch anchors on the third row only install a seat in the middle, so you may want to check on that if you definitely want to use the latch system.

    Hope that helps!

  • We only have 2 right now, but I got a Toyota Sienna when DD2 was born and I like it.  When #3 gets here I plan to put the oldest (FF) and infant (RF)  in the middle and the middle (RF though will almost be 2) in the back since I'll be able to climb in in front of the FF seat.  Once DD1 can buckle herself we'll change our plan.  I am constantly climbing over the center console into the back to unbuckle everyone or when #2 was little to pack her into a carrier before opening the door to winter cold which works well for me.  It drives well and we don't have a honda dealership in our area so that was not a choice (not to mention I couldn't justify the extra $).  GL

  • Have almost this exact situation, and we just bought a Ford Flex.  It will fit 3 across in the second row, and still has a 3rd row for when they are a little older and want to spread out some (probably when my son can buckle himself.)
  • We have the ford explorer and LOVE it, it will fit 3 in the 2nd row with the awesome cargo space that also makes a 3rd row( with still good cargo room) for when they are older!!
