Trying to Get Pregnant

How did you know if was time to start TTC

Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to post this if not let me know and I will delete.  My husband and I have been married for over 2 years now and he has always wanted kids asap... I have been on the fence since we have started dating. Partially because I don't know if I will be able to conceive due to medical issues. These past few weeks and maybe past two months I have been feeling that maybe it is time to start seriously planning for a baby. I know that just because I WANT something it doesn't necessarily mean that I am READY for one. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to enter into being a parent light heartedly because I know that a baby is one of the most precious things in the world. I know my husband will be a great father and is a great uncle to my niece and nephew. Any advice or opinions welcome!! THANKS FOR READING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How did you know if was time to start TTC

  • 1. Don't delete on the boards

    2. You will never be "ready"/prepared for a baby

    3. Read the newbie link and get to know all of us, you will learn a lot about your body and ttc.

    Finally...welcome and good luck!!

  • You will NEVER be ready to have a baby no matter how much you prepare. With that said it should be something you are both on board 100 for. Other than that, welcome and GL.

  • What medical issues are you afraid of that is keeping you from TTC? Maybe if you tell us, we can ease your fears or maybe someone else has been through it.

  • Being a parent is amazing but it is also some times the biggest pain in the butt out there. Today I was pooped on twice not a little but like full outfit change required poop covering. DS is also more expensive per month than our car payment and takes most of our free time. To be ready for a child I'd say have yourself in a comfortable place financially, be solid with your spouse, and be honest with yourself that you are prepared to be needed when you are hungry, sick and tired. It is worth it all though. When my son curls up in my arms or starts laughing its the greatest feeling in the world

  • I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, Hashimotos hypothyroidism, and a 50/50 chance of endometriosis but at the time the endometriosis was brought up I was only 18 and didn't want to do an exploratory lap to be diagnosed 100%.

this is me to a T.  I'm not going to lie and say it was easy to get pregnant, because it wasn't.  BUT, if you check on my siggy you'll see a very handsome little man and notice that I am back ttc...so the baby made all the waiting and frustration worth it.  Plus some people with those issues have difficulty ttc, many don't.  You just don't know.  I have an awesome RE, maybe you should have a consultation just so you know what you're getting into.  Even before I wanted RE technology to help me get pregnant I saw an RE because I thought he would understand my body better than my OB.  He leveled my thyroid perfectly and got me on just the right dose of Metformin.

    Anyway, good luck.

have you discussed ttc with your drs?
  • I have had general discussions about when the time is right they have all told me that I would need to be closely monitored with my hormone levels and that I would most likely have "some degree of difficulty" actually getting pregnant because when I am off birth control I only have 2-4 periods a year ever since I have been having a period. They have talked about using metformin or clomid but I don't want to jump off trying to use medication if I can help it.
  • Please forgive me for my ignorance but what is "RE"??

and if I were in your shoes and ready to ttc, I would be finding an RE and making an appointment. They will be the best to work with your other drs and helping you get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy
  • Just wanted to say welcome to the board and GL!  For reference there is a glossary on the left hand side at the bottom that will help you a bit here :)

I`ve always wanted kids and would have been ready to TTC the day after we got married.  My DH needed a bit more time and it wasn`t until we got a nephew and a newborn next door to us that DH came home one night saying he is ready.

  • I once asked the same question to a friend of mine who has two great kids and is adopting a third now. Like the others said, there's nothing that can really prepare you 100% for a child. I think that if you know that you two can support a child, then it's just a question of whether you really want it... and it sounds like you do.

All this and 4. If you are ready and your partner is ready and you both have open communication, its time to begin your journey

    Good luck!
