Success after IF

Am I crazy? Share FET experience!

I'm so ready for baby #2!  DH said the same thing!

That being said, I have so many questions on the FET process as we've only done fresh cycles. I was hoping to BF LO until she is 8 months, wean, and try for an FET next Feb/March- when LO is 10/11 months old.

We have 7 frozen embies, I understand they thaw a few at a time. What was the process like for you?

When did you meet with RE to discuss a new cycle post baby?

What's your spacing like between LOs?

How many did you thaw? Transfer?

Natural or medicated?

Share your protocol.

How long was our cycle, start to finish?

How many FETs before you we're successful?

 TIA!

Re: Am I crazy? Share FET experience!

  • I can't answer any questions but just wanted to tell you we are on the same page!!!!

I plan on calling the RE when little one turns 1 to start the process. I am hoping to do an FET next summer mimicking the timeline of our fresh IVF number 1.

I've also been thinking about the process a lot and look forward to reading the responses!

I have done 4 fet's now. 1st worked but then I miscarried. Then 2 others worked and one didn't. We have always had ours thaw nicely. Our clinic has a 90 something percent thaw rate. We transferred one each time except once. That time we transferred 2 because they were frozen together and our lowest quality. When I call it takes almost a month to get the consult appt and then I have to do bloodwork and saline u/s in a cycle and then can start. I did Lupron estrace and pio. So much easier then fresh cycle.
My oldest two are 20 months apart and then my youngest are 17 months apart.
Daughter born July 2008; Daughter born March 2010 Son born August 2011
  • We met w our RE right after I got my period back after weaning, right around 15 months. I was not ready yet, but I just wanted to understand the protocol. We ended up starting my cycle when LO was 21 months. Protocol was easy for me, no retesting required except for the sonohystogram, then started BCPs, then estradiol and PIO. So much easier than a fresh cycle. We only had one frostie left, so we just thawed and transferred. Our kids will be 2 and a half years apart.

It was a liitle more complicated to cycle with a child since it was harder to schedule for dr and acu appointments and to fit in PIO injections. Good luck!

That being said, I have so many questions on the FET process as we've only done fresh cycles. I was hoping to BF LO until she is 8 months, wean, and try for an FET next Feb/March- when LO is 10/11 months old.  DD1 was weaned around 71/2 month, but my lack of supply was the reason , not the FET.

We have 7 frozen embies, I understand they thaw a few at a time. What was the process like for you?

At the time , we only had two frozen , individually , we thawed both and transferred both .  It just worked out that way for us.  I had a miscarriage with my fresh cycle , and a successful pregnancy with my first frozen , so me being the logical person that I am I figured that if we just did two embies, I had a 50/50 shot at one healthy baby.  My clinic has really high success rates and I really should have known better but both embie survived the transfer and we had twins.  If I had it to do over again , I absolutly would have done two SETs instead of one twin pregnancy.  I can honestly say that the last few weeks of my twin pregnancy were the most uncomfortable I have ever been in my entire life.

When did you meet with RE to discuss a new cycle post baby?  I just called my clinic and they got me going with the insurance and medication

What's your spacing like between LOs?   19 months between my oldest and the twins.  Hoping  for 3+ years between the twins and  number 4.

How many did you thaw? Transfer? Thawed 2 , transferred 2

Natural or medicated? Medicated with estrogen and progesterone

    Share your protocol.

How long was our cycle, start to finish?  2 months of birth control to get a regular cycle , start estrogen with the start of second period, PIO 5 days before transfer through till 12 weeks of pregnancy.

How many FETs before you we're successful?  All of them were successful, but I had a miscarriage shortly after my BFP on the first cycle.

     TIA!

  • We have 7 frozen embies, I understand they thaw a few at a time. What was the process like for you? It depends on how they were frozen. I started with 7 embies. They were frozen in straws of 2 with the 7th frozen alone. We started by thawing one straw of two, and they both survived the thaw.

When did you meet with RE to discuss a new cycle post baby? I wanted to BF for a year so we made an appointment when DS was about 10 months to talk about the plan for weaning and cycling.

What's your spacing like between LOs? DS will be two years and about 4 months when the girls arrive.

How many did you thaw? 2 Transfer? 2

Natural or medicated? I had two medicated cycles with different protocols cancelled. My BFP came from a natural FET cycle.

Share your protocol. My RE monitored my cycle until I was about to ovulate on my own and my lining looked good. (After everything we had been through with my horrible lining, good for us was 6.7 at the time.) The transfer was scheduled for three days after ovulation. (My embies were frozen on day 3.) I started PIO a day before transfer and continued until 10 weeks.

How long was our cycle, start to finish? The length of a normal cycle for me since it was natural.

How many FETs before you we're successful? We were cancelled twice but the first time we made it to transfer we were successful.

Surprise! Baby #4 is due in March!
  • DS was from a FET, and we've attempted subsequent FETS for a sibling. I ditto other posters in that I thought it was much harder logistically to cycle wiht a LO, but definitely is manageable. It may be something for you and DH to keep in mind when you think about timing. As for timeline - I wanted to BF for a year, so we started when LO was about 13 months. I started weaning process around 10 months by dropping sessions and using my freezer stash. My RE and OB both recommended a slow wean, not for medical or physical reasons, but they thought it woudl be easier for me and the baby to adjust. We had no problems and by the time he got to WCM, LO didn't even notice. We're electing to do sETs. Becuase I delivered LO early and am 38, I want to minimize the chance of a twin pregnancy. The concern is that I'd deliver twins fairly early. We've tried twice more, but havent' been successful yet. All my FETs were medicated and it was about 6 weeks from start to finish. We have 3 frozen left. We'll transfer those this summer, and if those don't work, we're done.
TTC since April 2009 dx = PCOS; TTC History for DS - A FET miracle after 7 IUIs; 2 fresh transfers, and 1 other FET resulted in BFNs. Hoping and Praying for baby #2: Cycle 1 - FET; November 2012 BFN Next Steps - who knows? Lilypie Second Birthday tickers
