Chocoholic help!

Have your doctors mentioned anything about limiting chocolate intake due to caffeine content? I read that consuming over 200 milligrams of caffeine per day is bad. I do 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder in my smoothies every day and eat about a square or two of dark chocolate every night, wondering if that's too much? My first doc appt is in 2 weeks. Chocoholic paranoia.

  • I think you are fine. Seriously, I am the chocolate queen. What you are saying isn't a big deal.

if you are chocolate queen then I'm claiming the title of chocolate princess! but yeah you should be fine! I think they're most concerned with the caffeine intake related to coffee and sodas.

So a pound of 100 dark chocolate is 907mg of caffiene. If you were eating a quarter pound of chocolate a day, I think caffiene would be the least of your problems.[/

    Right. That sounds divine though!
  • I actually had extreme sensitivity from caffeine while TTC. One piece of dark chocolate caused my uterine blood flow to become bad. Haven't had any chocolate in months! :

I'm normally a crazy chocolate person and have barely eaten any the last two months! It doesn't even sound good : I hope that doesn't last!

This is me too! I've on and off craved a little something chocolate, but generally I've totally lost interest! So sad.

I did check though and your average store bought dark choc bar is like 3.5 to 4 oz. I usually get 60 to 70 cacao. It's probably about 100mg caffeine in a bar like that from my research. If you break that into 8 to 12 pieces, like what I'm assuming the small squares you described are, then we're talking 10mg or less per square. You're fine.

But now you have a way to keep track, roughly, if you want :] I try to since I also have a cup of coffee or tea most days still and I want to make sure I stay under 200mg total.

I usually do 70 to 80 percent cacao.

    Very helpful! Thanks!
