Cautious BFP - what do you think?

So, on Saturday 4/27 (15dpo per OPK with AF 2 days late), I POAS in the early afternoon after holding my urine for a while.  Almost immediately a light line popped up.  It was light, but definitely not a squinter.

Tested this am with FMU (17dpo) (don't ask why...) and I've got a real squinter.  No bleeding, light cramps, and boobs feel less sore than they have the last two days.

I know that nobody has ute goggles, but shouldn't the line be getting darker?  I've stepped away from the tests, scheduled an appointment with my OB/GYN for 9 weeks (their standard first appointment) and she said to call and come in if I start spotting.

Words of wisdom?  I'm prepared for the worst, but isn't a line a line?

Re: Cautious BFP - what do you think?

  • Hi there

I believe a line is a line (as long as it is coloured, not a grey evaporation line).

Can I ask which brand of test you used?

I would really recommend that you use a good test if you are unsure. In my experience First Response test are the most reliable.

Wishing you good luck and congrats!

  • I would test agin in a couple days and see if the line is still there.  You may have had a chemical pregnancy. I hope that's not the case. Good luck
  • Thanks! I used the ones from earlypregnancytests.com both times.  They are pretty cheapy, so it might be a good idea to pick up a FRER.

  • I was in your same boat last week. I tested at 10dpo and got a very faint line. I then tested everyday and didn't notice it get much darker for a few days. I even had one left and tested today almost a week after my first BFP and I wouldn't say it was necessarily really dark but it definitely came up as positive faster! Test again with a more reliable test, and more expensive, but its worth it.
  • Testing multiple times is a risky game.  It's great when they show up darker, but not when they don't. It could've been a test with less ink than the first.  It could be that your urine was less concentrated with hcg.  It could be worse-case scenario, though I hope it is not.  Testing with another brand of hpt won't clear this up.  You'll just be introducing another factor into the confusion, a new hpt brand with a difference hcg sensitivity. It won't be an even comparison to the other tests.

If I were you, I'd try to distract myself until the ob advises.  Maybe they'll do a couple of betas.  Chances are if it is this early and it is a chemical, your cycle will begin before the 2nd beta tests results are back.  Wish you the best.

  • When in doubt, go digital. After TTC for over a year for my DD I switched from the "Is it a line? Is it not a line?" and just stuck with digital. I bought a 5 pack after my BFP this time around because I'm crazy like that and wanted to test every so often before my first appointment. Nothing better than the word "Pregnant" coming back plain as day. Smile

ETA: Congrats though, a line is really a line!!!

  • Thanks for your replies, ladies.  Digi says NOT PREGNANT and line is completely gone, so I'm guessing that, sadly, I've experienced a CP.  I haven't started spotting/bleeding yet, but I'm cramping pretty badly, so I'm guessing that I will in the next day or so.  Dr. advised to call only if I was spotting/bleeding, so I'm just waiting...
