Anyone else have an insatiable baby?

Mobile: Anyone else have an insatiable baby?

DS is FF, and is up to 40 oz. a day (10 oz. every 4 hours, no MOTN feeding), sucking every bottle dry. Newsflash DS, bottles are only made to hold 10 oz. max! He's only in the 60th percentile for height and weight so I'm not really sure where he's putting it all. Does anyone else have an insatiable baby? I'm going to call the pedi today to see what he recommends, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing lately.

  • That's pretty much DS lately! He is very long and skinny and just keeps eating! It's crazy. When he was "little", he would nurse for 15 minutes total each time. Now he nurses one side for an hour plus. Makes it hard to do things!

ETA: I BF but sometimes give DS a bottle of pumped milk before bed. One night he ate 12 oz. in an hour and a half! We are going to be in trouble when he's a teenager!

  • DD2 is a crazy big eater. She only takes about 5 ounces at a time but there are days she wants to eat every hour to hour and a half. She probably eats close to 40 oz a day. I don't know where she puts it! But pedi is OK with it and says she healthy so I just let her eat what she wants.

My LO in BF, but she will eat between 5 and 6oz in each bottle, totaling between 27 and 30oz per day. Most other BF babies seem to only be eating 4oz so I have been curious if I am over feeding her, but she is just not happy with 4oz. She was a big baby though. Let us know what your Pedi says.

  • My DD is BF too but typically eats more than 4 ozs @ a time. At 3 months she's close to 16 lbs. I think some babies are just big eaters. As far as I know you can't really over feed!

I've read you shouldn't let them nurse that long, or eat that long from a bottle.  Sounds like he's comfort nursing and not hungry if it takes that long.  At this age a feeding should be 20 mins tops for a good nurser.

  • DS is also FF and drinks 7 oz every 4 hours with no MOTN feeing as well.  His bottle right before bed is up to 8 oz, so we are up to 29 oz per day.  He also is in the 60th percentile for height and weight. His doctor doesn't seem concerned, so I guess we will continue on the same track as we are.

  • Our issue is that DS is still hungry after finishing his 10 oz... just got off the phone with the pedi (please have mercy on me)... he said to start 1 tbsp. of rice cereal spoon fed once a day. I'm not sure if we are going to do it or not...

Some may be because he is teething but honestly, he can down a crap ton of milk when it's in a bottle so part of it is that he is a growing boy and eats a ton. My MIL says DH was the same way. He is going to be super tall based on both sides of the family. Guess he's starting early!

ETA: He doesn't take very long when he drinks from a bottle. I should have explained that better. He didn't have the bottle for an hour and a half. He drank some, then was still hungry later so he ate 12 oz over an hour and a half time period.
  • DD seems to be hungry all the time! We EBF but she's gaining well and has a crazy high amount of dirty diapers so we were told to just keep doing what we're doing.
