How do you get your LO to do it? Lily has gone poop in the potty a couple times, but usually runs off, hides, and goes in her underwear. We even tried bribing her with a pet fish, yeah i know not the greatest idea but not sure what else to do. She's been peeing on the potty over over a month now.
Re: Pooping in the potty
This is probably a flameful suggestion. But I was just talking about PTing with a friend this weekend since we are going to attempt it soon.
She said her son (6 months older than our kids) was pee trained for about 3 months, but would poop in his underwear. She said she was at her wits end and her mom suggested that next time she make him clean it up. So next poop in the undies she had him come to the toilet and had him dump the poop and dunk the undies and scrub them together. She said it was horrible and that he cried and freaked out the whole time saying "It's yucky, mama." And she just tried to stay really calm and say things like, "I know it's yucky, that's why we go in the potty so no one has to clean up yucky undies". And from then on he has never as a poop accident again.
I'm not sure if I'm going to do that or not. We'll see how our "PTing weekend" goes starting tomorrow. But just thought I'd throw the suggestion out there.
Ugh. No suggestions. Just butting in to say this is why I'm not even in a little bit of a hurry to even start potty training!
We went today and picked out a fish bowl and all the accessories. We're going to set it up and tell her she gets to buy a fish to put in it when she goes poopy in the potty.
Maybe I'll see if the library has a pooping book too.
There's the famous Everybody Poops book! It's actually quite cute!
We are on a potty training break since we go on a week plus vacation on the 22nd and I didn't want to deal with it. So when we come back we are hitting it again.
Anyways, we do like babycakes does and when I see A start to strain or pause from his activity (he's a fairly predictable pooper which helps) then I ask him and say something along the lines....oh my it's time to poop, lets go to the potty, hurry hurry. Its usually fairly animated and I will carry him but he goes in the potty. Sometimes he'll ask to go, but more recently he hasn't been. I'm thinking his new daycare room pushes it too much and that's why he hasn't been so keen on going. When we have our long weekends at home is when he does much better.
Also like TNMT's friend, I do make him help me clean up his accidents when we do have diaper free or underwear time. Course now he thinks its funny. I'll be in the living room feeding J and I hear A in the pantry hunting for a breakfast bar or sitting at the breakfast nook chanting "clean pee pee, clean pee pee". ugh. silly stubborn toddlers.
