Auditory Neuropathy

The latest theory on Greyson is that he has Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD). Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Auditory Neuropathy

  • Tell me more! Is he hearing impaired? DD has mild-mod hearing loss and we're looking at Auditory Neuropathy as a cause. But I have never heard of ANSD.

So he passes an OAE test but his ABR shows a loss? How did the Audiologist explain it to you?

My son has Auditory Neuropathy in the severe to profound range.  He heard nothing from age birth to 14 months.  We had him implanted at age 12 months and they have given him hearing in the normal range.  There is a lot of hard to stand info out there on AN bc it is just such a complex hearing disorder.  Some people have kids that get better over time, or fluctuate day to day.  We never saw any improvement in our son.  We also have a FB group called "parents of children with auditory neuropathy" if you want to check it out!  Oh and my son is now 6 and he is doing great, speaks near perfectly, hears near normal, and is just doing wonderful!
