Babies on the Brain

Im new here

Hello, Im new to the forum here...

Ive been checking into and reading a lot lately here on the bump, but just decided to join for some support!

My husband and I have been together 13 years, married 5 this June. I was on depo for 9 years. After 3 months got my periods back (October 2012) and now we decided its time to start trying. Ive wanted a kid since I was in highschool!

I have irregular cycles... anywhere from 30-42 days, but usually around 33. We are not a couple that has sex all the time, so Im trying to get out of that habit and more into the taking time to have sex kinda thing, but also want to make sure were trying at the right time.

Oftentimes, my husband has a hard time ejaculating, unless weve been going at it for an hour or so, and I just dont have *time* for that, and lets face it, I get pretty sore when going for that long.

My husband just thinks Im crazy with the baby on the brain... and I was scared a couple days ago to tell him that I want to order the test strips off of Amazon to make sure Im ovulating, etc. He thinks its a bit overkill, but he said okay. I just dont think a guy can truly understand that yearning inside, trying to figure out am I ovulating, did we just make a baby, two week wait, etc. Its all just very stressful. When I told him my egg only last 12-24 hours, he was shocked. So I think he is starting to understand more. But I know if I talk to him about this as much as its on my mind, he would think Im nuts.

Sorry I was so long winded! Hoping there are some other women out here in the same position.

Re: Im new here

  • Why would you be scared to tell him you were buying OPKs?

Also OPKs will not confirm that you are ovulating.  OPKs test for a hormone surge (LH), but it is possible to have a LH surge and not ovulate.  If you want to confirm that you ovulate, you should consider charting your BBT (Basal Body Temperature).  It is the only way for you to pinpoint ovulation without u/s monitoring and blood tests.  Fertility Friend is a great tool for charting your BBT and it's free.  You can check it out by clicking on my ticker, although I don't temp anymore since I am doing IF treatments and being monitored by my RE.

  • I was nervous to tell him because he is more of a... "lets just try and see" kind of guy.

I did start charting recently, and I believe I should be ovulating in the next few days. Just had quite the dip in temp this morning (was usually between 97.7 and 97.9 and was 97.2 this morning).

My husband is all for having a kid, he just does not understand why I would bother charting, or really using the test strips to time things better (since I have irregular cycles). Hes rather ignorant about menstrual cycles... Considering almost the whole time we were together, I was on depo, it was never anything he heard about or thought about I guess.

I am also overweight and on bp meds (safe ones!), so Im just concerned that this wont be "easy" like it is for some people.

Its like now that weve decided we want a kid, I dont wanna wait any longer, which Im sure you understand.

Eh, my husband was a "let's just see what happens" guy when we first started TTC and didn't really understand why I wanted to do OPKs and charting.  I figured it didn't really make  a difference if he understood why I was charting, because he really didn't have to do anything. I was the one peeing on OPKs and taking my temp. Eventually he actually learned about temping and started asking me questions about how my chart looked. It was kind of cute.

As far as your concerns about being overweight and on bp meds, try not to borrow worry. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive, so try not to worry until you have reason to. Since you are concerned about your weight, you could try adding diet and exercise to your routine.  I am not overweight, but I have gained about 20 pounds in the last 4 or 5 years and am trying to lose a few of them.  My company is starting a walking for fitness program this month and I am playing on my company's softball team.  Losing a few pounds probably won't help me get pregnant, but I figure it will be easier to lose them now then it will be after having a baby.
