Babies: 9 - 12 Months

baby skin

DD has these patches- red and CAN be scaly. Not always. They are in little clusters on her arms near her elbow and under her thighs in the little creases of her skin. They don't seem to bother her and when I touch it she seems unfazed by it. The other day a couple more appeared on her thigh-- I have an apt with the pedi on Monday but I wanted to see if any other mamas have seen this. They look worse right after a bath. Very red. Then about 15-20 mins later they look like they did before her bath.

I first I freaked out and thought it was ringworm. Which I found out doesn't consist of an actual worm. It's just the verbiage. Which sounds gross haha but it's highly contagious when touched and DH and I do not have it PLUS I'm at SAHM, uber clean, no pets, and was like how and where would she have gotten it?! So after my minor melt down I realized it wasn't and went on to the other skin condition common in babies-- eczema.

I use Aveeno lotion on her after her bath and I use the baby Aveeno bath wash on her. I switched months ago from Johnson and Johnson because it was drying out her skin.

Anyone else seeing this in their LO?

Re: baby skin

  • She might be allergic to something in the Aveeno. I know that Aveeno is made by Johnson & Johnson as well. DS had a pretty severe skin reaction to Johnson's Baby wash when we started using it when he was a few months old. I did some research and found articles on how the ingredient Quarternium-15 is know to cause contact dermatitis and is also a formaldehyde releaser!! I was shocked. We received a ton of Johnson's products as gifts so I didn't get rid of them all, just the one with this ingredient and he has been fine. I would suggest trying something truly organic on her and see if there is a difference. I will be buying all organic products in the future.

  • I agree with the others about Eczema. My LO has it too and it will always appear at the folds - elbow, knees and so on. My LO has it pretty badly so it is pretty much everywhere in little patches. I first found it after using baby aveeno lotion at night. After that, I switched to aquafor for many months. Now, I did try to go back to the avveno eczema relief cream --- and it is WONDERFUL! It took it all away instantly. He wolk up the next moring and it was the first time in months that he had no spots! Try it... its like 9.00 a bottle but well worth it.
  • Thank you all! I need to find an organic brand I think too. Her skin is just so sensitive. Mine was too at that age- according to my mom- do you have an organic brand you recommend @Shellbelle01??
  • I am using the aveeno right now. Did the aquafor work?
