Success after IF

Feeling guilty...

So my blood pressure is finally looking good thanks to a combo of meds and having help at night. The sleep is really helping my BP levels and hopefully with enough rest I can be off the meds after a few weeks/months.

My OB suggested transitioning Grace to her crib so that I can sleep better- she is the cutest thing, she "talks" in her sleep which is a bad combo because I'm a light sleeper. She sleeps in a cradle in our room.

I understand that I need to be healthy so that I can be the best mom to my baby, but I didn't imagine transitioning to the crib until at least 2-3 months old. I feel awful.

i don't want to leave our doors open because of our cat, I have a monitor but I'm nervous about being away from her. I'm pretty emotional about this. Any advice or tips? When/why did you transition to crib?

Re: Feeling guilty...

  • I don't have any advice.  We waited until 6 months because I was crazy.  But the night we moved her into her own room, she (and we!) slept SO much better.  I know it's really hard.  But it will be fine.  It will be good for both of you.  Also, I know you don't want to keep the door shut, but it is actually safer for LO that way.  For one because of the cat.  But for two, it is common for babies to climb out of their cribs, so it is much safer for them to be confined to their room when that happens.  So it's a good habit to get in now before she is mobile.  You can do it mama.  Hugs!

No advice here, I wanted H in his crib at one month but DH wants to keep him with us until he drops his 2-3am feeding so I guess we will wait until then. If you try it and it doesn't work out, I don't see anything wrong with moving her back in your room. Don't feel bad!

  • Poor thing. I totally understand the worry. I would have kept them in our room until middle school if I'd had my way! DH kicked them out a week or two after they started STTN at 4.5 mos. We never did sleep training, so it didn't really matter before then. He just got tired of being quiet when we were getting ready for bed. We had a sound machine in our room and moved it to their room. Their noises never bothered me over the machine. I still keep the monitor on high volume, so it makes no difference in my sleep. In fact, I think I probably slept a little better with them next to me because of my own anxiety.

I'm so sorry for all this stress!! But, in thrilled that things seem to be taking a turn for the better.

  • DS slept in his crib starting the day we brought him home from the hospital. We have a very small apartment, and his room is connected to our's but he never slept with us in our room. Grace will be totally fine. I am so glad to hear that you are starting to feel better and hope some better sleep helps more!

Surprise! Baby #4 is due in March!
  • We are a bit weird - M slept in his crib from day one BUT his crib was in our bedroom.  I originally planned to room-share (not bedshare) for 6 months, hence his crib in our bedroom.  After about 3'ish months, I realized I would not make it to 6 months at all.  We are all light sleepers and we were keeping one another up all night long.

I then decided to move M and his crib into his room at 4 months, but a few days before that, M rolled from back to tummy.  I got too nervous kicking him out just when he learned to sleep on his tummy, so we kept him for another 2 weeks.

All I can say is that after we moved him out, I kept asking DH why we didn't do it sooner!  We were so tired of tiptoeing and whispering in our own bedroom for fear of waking M up.  Some nights I didn't even dare to adjust my blanket or reposition myself cuz I worried I would wake him up.  GL!

  • We are definitely not in the norm here. We transitioned DS into his crib at 4 months, BUT his crib stayed in our room until he was 10 months old. The only reason he moved into his own room then was because we moved and before I had a chance to say anything my FIL had set the crib up in DS room.

    GL with your decision.

After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

  • We did it in the first couple weeks, however, his room is just 5 steps from ours. He's so close that sometimes I hear him across the hall juuuuuust before I hear him over the monitor. I did sleep on the floor in there for a couple nights at the beginning (when "night time" meant 2 hour stretches of sleep that happened when it was dark outside). He actually slept more in the crib than he had been doing in the pack 'n' play - probably because it's more comfortable! I still worry and if I roll over at night I stay awake until I hear something on the monitor. He is occasionally noisy but not necessarily as often as I would like. :) I also admit to occasionally going to the bathroom in the middle of the night when I wake up during a roll-over and check on him while I'm up!

  • Hi girls! So last night I kept Grace in our room and, considering how things have been going, we all slept pretty well! We had two long stretches from 11:30-2:30 and again from 3:30-7am. We will try again tonight. Like Bella said, I think at this point the anxiety of separating is what would keep me up. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for all the support and advice!

  • It is so hard but If it's what's best for you to help you get better then I think it'll be worth. I spent the first couple nights glued to the monitor And I'd go in and check if it made me feel better!

  • I'm sorry you are feeling guilty, but if the dr is recommending it hopefully that can put your heart at ease some.

I Ferbered each boy at ~3mo. We were co-sleeping up til that point, but it turned out a lot of the time when I would hand baby back to DH after nursing he would keep him in bed rather than putting him back in the bassinet. I really needed my space, I don't like anyone touching me when I sleep so it was a novelty with my babies for a while, but then I needed to be alone.I was not sleeping well

They slept for much longer stretches after they transitioned to their crib, they'd wake once around 1-3 am to nurse and then sleep through till morning. You probably won't experience that for a while, but it will be nice when she does. :)
