Swaddle Houdini and powdered formula blocking nipples

So it's been a rough week for my LO. 14 weeks, 13 lbs. Just moved to a new state for DHs job.

She was sttn 9 hours but this entire week wakes up in the middle of the night out of her swaddle. I've tried the Velcro 7 to 14 lbs size and the 14 to 20 lbs size too. Thinking that since she is a swaddle Houdini that its time to stop swaddling? She's not rolling over yet and still sleeps in bassinet. Thinking about transitioning to crib since we are in our new house now, just nervous to not swaddle her bc she always squirms and hits her face.

Second question, I am exclusively pumping and supplementing with formula. She was on similac advance from the nicu but had gas and spit up issues so switched her to similac spit up. When age takes it she's not gassy or spitting up, but the powder keeps getting stuck and blocking the nipple, and she gets pissed. She can't handle a medium flow nipple it's too fast. But I can't get the powder through slow flow... I've made it early, let it settle, I shake it with a cap, I've tried tommee tippee, medela, dr browns to no avail. So now we are back to using the similac advance ready to feed in two ounce bottles, but its costing a lot and not easy for times when age drinks five ounces.

Any suggestions or advice on either topic would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!!!

  • I agree that the powdered formula doesn't fully dissolve until it is warmed. If you really don't like the powder you can also buy the ready to feed in 32 oz. bottles so that you can pour as much as you need.

As far as the swaddle I was having the same issue and got a convertible Woombie. I love it and it's great for transitioning DS off away from the swaddle.

  • Google "escape proof swaddle" and watch the youtube video for a demonstration. We were having the same problem with LO and her hands would always wake her up when she got them out of the swaddle. Now we do the "escape proof" method with a halo sleep sack and a stretchy recieving blanket and its a total lifesaver! She always sleeps 12 hrs if shes swaddled well but up all night if her hands are out so now we dont have that problem. Were not gonna stop seaddling till we have to and im scared for that day! Shes not rolling yet either.

  • Can't help with the formula as I EBF.  However, with the swaddle - I switched to Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit and baby and I have enjoyed great sleep ever since.  Its a must have for anyone whose baby doesnt like swadling or like you has a Houdini. My baby lovedd being swaddled, but then just grew out and strruggled with the swaddle. That's when I made the switch.
