DS's magic merlin sleep suit came in the mail today, and it will be the first time he will go to bed unswaddled because he spends more time struggling to get out of it than anything. Here's a couple of tid-bits to consider: We live in an older home and the storm windows are still in, so cracking a window doesn't let in any air. I bought an internal thermometer for the house so I could keep track of the temperature in whatever room the baby is sleeping in. When DS goes to bed, it's about 68-70 degrees. By the middle of the night, it's around 62-64 because we've stopped turning the heat on now that the warmer weather is here. If I put DS in just a short sleeve onsie and the suit (for those that aren't familiar it's very similar to the fleece snow suits you can get your LOs at Wal-Mart or Carter's), is that still too hot to be in the suit?
I guess the only thing I can really do is put him in it and see, but I know overheating is a risk factor for SIDS and I'm paranoid. We also have a fan in the room we can put on. When it starts to get really warm we will have ACs in the windows, so I'm actually less worried about it then because we can keep the room cool enough that he can be in the suit.
Re: 68 degrees too warm for the sleep suit?
He did pretty good! He woke up just about his usual times to eat (12 and 4 ish a.m.), and also woke up at 2:30 but all I had to do was pop his paci in and he was back out. He woke up happy and chatting. I went with a onesie and no socks and he did not wake up sweaty or clammy.
