I drank this tea a lot during the last month of my first pregnancy. I bought some at the store the other day and am wondering when it's recommended to start drinking it?
I love making teas, so I really want to add RRL tea to my rotation, but I want to make sure it's safe to start doing so. TIA ladies!
Re: Red raspberry leaf tea
I think this is another "comfort level" thing. My midwife advised to reserve RRLT until the last 3 weeks of pregnancy. Some start drinking it in second trimester. It doesn't bring on labor or anything, but it does tone the uterus. So, if you have irritated uterus or uncomfortable BH, then it can make those sensations more pronounced.
I started last pregnancy drinking it 4 to 5 times a day (medicinal dosage) at 38 weeks. DD was born in 4 hours at 39 weeks and 1 day. My contractions were insane, but I don't know how much toning the uterus actually helped with that or if that is how my body does labor. We will have to see if I get the same results this time around. I'm going to start it two times a day at 37 weeks this time around and steadily increase to the max dosage (5 times a day) until I deliver.
I would consult your OB and midwife about your individual situation, but I've always erred on the side of caution and waited until after 37 weeks.

Really interesting. I had a feeling there might be a school of thought that said to wait until the end but I wasn't sure. Ill probably ask at my next appointment.

I love my rainbow baby!
I will start drinking it a few times a day starting at 37 weeks. My OB said it was harmless and worth a try and I'm not sure if it helped with my first birth or not specifically since I seem to have a pretty irritable uterus anyway...lots of increasingly uncomfortable BH already. My last pregnancy was very similar and I'm glad I did start drinking it at the end. I was induced at 39 weeks and had a very easy labor and great birth.
