I was wondering if you are all taking them while TTC? Did you start taking them before you started TTC? I got some from my MW when I got my IUD out, but we're going to use condoms until my cycle evens out, so there's no need to start them until then, right? Also, any favorite brands that you would recommend that are not too pricey?

They are a good idea to start taking whenever. I was taking them even while on the bcp for a bit.
I use Platinum easymulti-prenatal. My sister and I have both tried Jamieson prenatal as well and both agree it tastes worse.

That's my understanding anyways.
When we started ttc, I started taking prenatal vitamins (and also made my dh start taking a multivitamin).
I take ultra mega green prenatal from GNC. They're like $15 for a one month supply. My doctor prescribed me one and they wanted $64 for them....so gnc it was!

Before having DS I started taking them a couple months before TTC, and I haven't stopped taking them since then (pregnant, then nursing, then just in the habit so why not).
I like the Nature Made Prenatals - when I was researching brands/etc these were said to be one of the easiest to absorb. Also, at the store I buy them they frequently have buy 1 get 1 free sales.
I don't do the ones with DHA and I don't take any DHA separately either. The normal DHA made me gag (smell like fish) and I couldn't even take them. So I started taking DHA gummies and that was ok, but I honestly don't see the point.

You *should three months for them to build up in your system, so if you are starting to try soon, then yeah. Take 'em.
*Don't want to get biitched at by the thread police.
So any woman that doesn't take them prior to getting pregnant will have a baby born with birth defects? Right. ::eyeroll::
OP, I had never taken a PNV a day in my life before I got pregnant with DS. He's perfectly healthy.
Taking a PNV while TTC is a great idea because it gives your body the right amount of nutrients it needs but you don't "absolutely need to". I take them because I researched the benefits.
PNV should have enough FA in it. That's why it's a PNV. It's always good to check the label and make sure, though.
So, in conclusion, folic acid, do it.

Most pre-natals have 800mcg of folic acid in them. That is enough unless you have something in your medical history that means you need more. If you just take a regular multi they have 400mcg, you can always add some extra to that, folic acid is super cheap.

I posted about this a week or so ago. My Rx PNVs were making me super ill. My dr prescribed some chewables instead same mix of stuff, just chewable instead of pill and I am not sick this time so far.

This. I started once I stopped BCP. I tried a few samples that my OB gave me & they made me sick. I take the Vitafusion gummies w/ Folic Acid & DHA. They're not expensive & gentle on the tummy. GL!
I just changed brands about a month ago. Love my new ones. I can slowly see changes in my nails not breaking and splitting as much. I am taking New Chapter prenatal and Nordic Natural DHA taste like strawberry. They do make another DHA prenatal without the strawberry but it tastes good and no fishy after taste. You have to take 3 of one and two of the other and they are a bit more expensive but I like them and seem like they are helping my hair, skin and nails more as well. Never noticed any change on the other brands.
You can ask your Dr if they prefer a certain brand. Mine did not.
