Hi Ladies!!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Monday:) I am have a quick question. For the past couple weeks i have been having pain (sometimes shooting) on the right side of my pubic bone area only. TMI... where the vaginal lips are lol. Is anyone else experiencing this? Lastly, i definitely know this is not lightening crotch pain, that sensations goes up my entire vagina.

Re: pubic bone pain

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I have had so much pain in the same area that it's difficult to walk, sleep, get in a vehicle etc.  My midwife said to wear a support band under my belly to alleviate the pressure, but that isn't working. I've also tried icing and heating like she suggested, but no success.  Any other suggestions.

  • Yep, it's called Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction and also sometimes called Pelvic Girdle Pain.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphysis_pubis_dysfunction

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelvic_girdle_pain

The 3 joints of the pelvis are held together by ligaments.  Natural pregnancy hormones (called Relaxin) cause all the ligaments in your body to loosen over the course of the pregnancy so that childbirth is possible/easier (the pelvis can spread so the baby can come out).  Sometimes though the hormones are too efficient too early and cause the ligaments to loosen too early or too much.

What has helped me the most is avoid walking a lot, avoid stairs when possible, wearing very comfortable and supportive shoes all the time, avoid lifting DD when possible, sleeping with a pillow between my knees, keeping me knees together as much as possible when getting in and out of cars or bed, and avoiding sitting directly on the floor.

Here's what the wiki page suggests:

    Self-help management techniques include:

    • When getting into bed sit on the edge keeping knees close together, lie down on your side, lifting both legs at the same time. Reverse this to get up.
    • Try not to attempt to pull yourself up from lying on your back.
    • Keep knees together when rolling over in bed.
    • Sleep with a pillow between the legs; add more in other areas for support.
    • When getting into a car: Sit down first and then swing legs keeping them together.
    • Avoid sofas and chairs that are too low or too soft.
    • Try to reduce the stress on the joint.
    • Avoid any movement with your knees apart.
    • Take smaller steps when walking.
    • Avoid stairs if possible.
    • Take breaks.
    • Move within the limits of pain.
    • Avoid twisting, bending or squatting.

  • Well I'm glad I read this post... I had to pull over into a gas station the other day because I could not figure out if I had to pee or if this pain was ligaments or what. This is extremely helpful!
