Cervix Effaced?

Hello Mommies! I have a question... I am 38 weeks on Saturday and last week at my appointment my doctor told me I was 80% effaced and then today he told me I was 50% effaced. This is confusing to me - can this actually change? I didn't even realize till after he left the room or else I would have asked him myself. He also said that I am about a fingertip dilated (not that that matters). Thanks in advance :)

    That is confusing for sure...not sure that you can decrease in effacement maybe he was off the first time when he said 80% I would call and ask him to clarify. I am 35 weeks and when I was last checked two weeks ago due to being preterm I was 2cm dilated idk what I am now but baby has definitely dropped for sure. After three prior babies I know that feeling....lol.Best wishes.
