I cleaned out my entire pantry today. It was HORRIBLE. I'm a really good meal planner now but I used to not budget for groceries and make tons of impulse purchases. I had boxes of brownies that you make with yogurt from 2009, microwaveable puches of lentils from Trader Joe's that seemed like a great idea at the time...I threw away SO MUCH STUFF.
I can now see what I have in my pantry. And my garbage/recycling guys are going to hate me tomorrow :P.
Go me.

We try to do a clean out once a month because of an incident a few years ago. Basically when my still-married parents, sis and I moved in 1994, we moved into a house with a fancy pantry room. Cool beans. In 2009, years after the divorce and my parents remarriage, my grandmother passed away. My H and I decided we'd help out my mom, and cleaned out their pantry and fridge (they'd left in a hurry and been gone about a month as my grandma went through hospice, passed away and they closed out her home) and stock them up with milk, eggs, etc.
Well in the process of cleaning out the pantry, we found one of those WB jars with banana sauce- never opened. Expired in 1993. As in, we MOVED with it expired. The sauce was BROWN- like poop brown. And there was a bottle of Midori from the year I was born (83)- open. Also poop brown. So, we overhauled and didn't get the last bag over to the dump before they came home. My stepfather FREAKED when he saw the banana sauce- unopened- in the trash. He took it out and ate a spoonful to prove it was "just fine". Let's just say Baby will not be eating there without our direct supervision. EWWWWWW
