Maternity Jean ???

Hi girls! Part of the reason I haven't purchased a pair of maternity jeans is because I am a little hesitant to buy online for fear that I may choose wrong size . I am not sure if I should buy a pair that is one or two sizes larger?
What are you doing when it comes to selecting size?

I also have the same issue buying in stores.

Re: Maternity Jean ???

  • I only bought one pair. They're from Motherhood Maternity and are skinny cut.  I bought them in my regular pre-pregnancy size and they fit great! The non-stretchy part doesn't cover any of my stomach so I think they'll stay fitting nicely, I love them! The best part is that they were only $30!

  • I bought mine from Burlington Coat factory. All under 12 dollars and great quality. Burlington is kind of like TJ Maxx. When choosing make sure you know which kind of front panel you want. I chose half since its going to be hot but I wish I had gotten full. The half cuts in when I sit and leaves marks. I also got 1 size bigger because of the hip spread. If you don't feel like your hips will widen to much then go for the same size!
  • I went to motherhood maternity as well and got a size large long length.  I am 5'8'' and about 165 pounds now.  Started out at 145 lb.  I am also 19 weeks with my first baby.  The pant fit good and have just a little bit of stretch.  Pre-pregnancy I would have worn a medium probably but my butt/hips/thighs have spread already.  Mine were like $30 too.

  • If you have gained your normal amount of weight, I would go with your per-pregnancy size.  I've bought from different places.  Old Navy is good.  When trying them on, the pants need to feel a little tight.  They loosen up when you wear them.  If you get them to feel a little loose, they will get to baggy.  Definitely know what type waist band you want.  I like the small/underbelly band.  I have one full panel, and they drive me nuts.
  • try kohls they have some pretty good deals on them .. i got a pair os the skinny jeans when i was about 10 weeks and am 18 going on 19 weeks now and they still fit pretty good ..
  • I'm wearing regular size 8's, but in maternity size 4's. I would go to Old Navy or Target and try some on.

  • I've yet to buy maternity jeans but I'm going to have to bite the bullet. My AE jeans are unbuttoned and most of the time covered by a long tank top, but that's not going to cut it much longer.

  • I wouldn't recommend buying online unless yore able to try on somewhere or are familiar with the jeans the ones I tried on at MM fit great, the ones I bought from zulilly are horrid; they fall down, bunch at the crotch and the waste band is really uncomfortable, even though the technically "fit".

  • i get all my maternity denim from h&m. so comfy!
  • I returned the old navy and gap skinnies I bought. I love my HM skinny jeans though! It probably depends on your body type. With old navy gap theydo free returns, so if you do choose to try them and don't like them, it's not a big deal to send them back.
  • I have 2 pairs of maternity skinny jeans.  One pair is from H&M and one pair is from the Gap.  The Gap pair is a size 4 and is a little roomy and the H&M pair is a size 8 and fits well.  Sizes vary so much!

I typically wear a size 27 jean--I don't own any regular jeans with the single number sizes.

  • I was able to try them on at a couple of stores. H&M's maternity skinny jeans were freakishly small so I went down the block to Old Navy. I tried on my regular size there and they fit perfectly. I bought 3 styles one of which were like a skinny jean capri for the summer.

In conclusion, for me at least, was that Old Navy was spot on with my regular size and H&M (which I didn't end up buying) were like 2 sizes off for me. Basically my advice to you would be that if you have the opportunity to get to a store to try some on, I would.

  • I don't wear skinny jeans myself, but Motherhood has them, and you should buy your prepreg size.

  • Thanks Girls!! I will take your advise and try some on! :
