Hello ladies! I have a question about two topics, hell maybe 3? The first is that I will be hitting the 3rd tri tomorrow and wondered about any tests I have left..Do they still do the group B strep screen? Iron levels? I got an email that between 26-30 weeks, they test your iron to see if your anemic? I have craved beef like nobodys business and a couple of my friends think I could be anemic because of my insane craving! And the TDap vaccine..This wasn't a big thing when I had DD 4 years ago but my cousin had a baby last year and posted all over FB that if you are not up to date on your TDap, don't bother coming to see her baby, very harsh! But is that something that DH, myself and my Mom need to get? DD is all caught up with her vaccinations until she starts..OMG! Kindegarten next year!

TIA
Re: Couple of questions re 3rd tri tests & the TDap
Hello ladies! I have a question about two topics, hell maybe 3? The first is that I will be hitting the 3rd tri tomorrow and wondered about any tests I have left..Do they still do the group B strep screen? Iron levels? I got an email that between 26-30 weeks, they test your iron to see if your anemic? My OB's office tested for anemia at the same time I did my glucose test.
And the TDap vaccine..This wasn't a big thing when I had DD 4 years ago but my cousin had a baby last year and posted all over FB that if you are not up to date on your TDap, don't bother coming to see her baby, very harsh! Not harsh. The disease is coming back and is deadly to young children. The CDC suggests you get it in the 3rd trimster. The number of cases has been on the rise the last few years
But is that something that DH, myself and my Mom need to get? Yes, you should all get it.

Thanks ladies! Maybe they did test my iron when they did my blood draw after my glucose test last month. They called me the next day telling me I passed but said nothing about iron, which I hadn't gave a second thought about until a few people brought it up to me. I will def. talk to the OB about us all getting TDap vaccines. I know just in my area last year, 6 babies died of pertussis so thats weighing heavily on my mind. I really don't think DH has had all of his necessary vaccines so I worry about that. Thanks again!
Yes, you will get tested for anemia and group b strep. Different offices may do it at different times so you should just ask your OB when you should expect to have those done. Last time I was pregnant I was caught a little off guard by the group b test so this time I need to ask him at what point they do it. I can't remember!
As for TDAP, yes you should definitely get it and your OB will probably require you get it. Mine did, and they gave it to me right in the office during one of my regular visits. I was given that shot in the hospital right after I delivered DS and it hasn't even been 2 years since then. However, the CDC now recommends all pregnant women get it so the antibodies can be passed on to the fetus to help protect them until they are old enough to receive the vaccine themselves. It doesn't guarantee they are immune, but at least helps. Pertussis is pretty serious so it is definitely important that those around the baby are vaccinated.

I came back low as well, they are retesting me at my appt on Thursday. With my last pregnancy, they also did an HIV test in the third tri, not positive when. I think that one is mandatory depending on what state you live in.
I just had an apt. this morning. Apparently they checked for anemia when they did the glucose test. passed the glucose, but apparently I am anemic. He recommended iron sups in addition to my PNV. He also said that if the iron doesn't agree with me to get Slow FE, it is supposed to be easier on one's system.
When I had DS2 in Dec '10 there was a pertussis outbreak in my city so my OB suggested everyone that would be around baby be vaccinated, but that I had to wait until delivery. I got the shot right before I was wheeled in for my c/s. Based on what I read on the boards they now recommend getting a Dtap shot in the third tri. When I asked my OB at my at my last apt he said it wasn't the standard of care yet, plus he didn't have it. He said it was up to me if I wanted to do it at Walgreens or something. I'm going to call my pedi today and see if she has any insight/preference. Both my sons are up to date on theirs and if DH doesn't do it this time, he never made it a priority last time so it didn't happen, I will likely wring his neck before my c/s. :P
