Shower ?

What do you do with your baby/kids when you take a shower?  I have always had DS in his bouncy seat and he has always been good and played, talked, slept while I took a shower and got ready but lately he has been trying to twist and turn in it.  This morning I found him almost completely on his tummy trying to look behind him (while strapped in of course!).  I am afraid he will tip the seat over so I need new options! He is crawling and pulling up and into everything so I am not sure what to do with him.

  • Playpen or crib with a monitor? Wait until nap time?

  • I stick S in his exersaucer right outside the bathroom door so I can peek out at him if I need to.  He stays pretty entertained so I'm no longer having to take lightning showers.

  • My son has long outgrown sitting in his bouncy seat so this is what I've done.

    1) put him in the shower with me- I put him in a laundry basket with toys at the back and let him play/shower while I shower too.

    2) bring his high chair into our bedroom/doorway to the bathroom (we have an ensuite) and give him some toys to play with

    3) let him play on the floor in the closet- our bathroom is connected to our walk-in closet. But he is slowly losing interest in that and is starting to climb into the laundry basket that I have barricading him from the closet to the bathroom and then climbing out on the other side so mostly I use the highchair. Or I wait until DH is home.

  • I put her on the floor of her room with a bunch of toys.  She's not mobile yet so I don't have to worry about her really going anywhere.  Once she is, I'd put her in her crib with toys.

  • playpen or crib
  • I second that bouncer/ exersaucer.  That keeps LO entertained long enough for me to shower, then she sits in her bumbo on our bed while I get ready.  We haven't used the bouncy seat in a while because of what you described!

  • So do y'all move the exersaucer/bouncer around the house?  I just cant imagine lugging it from the living room to the room/bathroom and back and forth.

    Thanks for all your input!

  • I get a shower before DH leaves for work.

If DS didn't freak when I got in the shower, I would put him in his playpen with toys.  I want to keep the crib for sleeping.

Hannah has outgrown her bouncy seat, nap nanny, and has figured out how to climb out of her bumbo-style seat, even with the tray attached. So, I either wait until she's napping, or I try and squeeze one in before H leaves for work in the am.

  • IDK if you're a SAHM or not, but I work so I get in the shower before N gets up.  I get up at 530, take my shower, get dressed, do my makeup and hair, then wake her up at 615, change her, feed her, get her dressed and we leave at 640.

On weekends if my DH isn't home, I wait until around 10 when she takes her morning nap, or if we have to be somewhere, I take her in the shower with me and put her in a laundry basket.

  • If you can't wait until naptime, do you have a PNP or an exersaucer you could put him in?

I shower at night after she goes to sleep.

This. Or I'll shower at nap time or when DH is home.

i keep the extrasaucer upstairs- lo sits in there while i shower.  i did shower the other day while she napped. it was the best shower ever as i didnt have to worry about rushing.. so thats a good suggestion too

  • I work so waiting until nap time won't work... DH is usually sleeping still when I am in the shower so I guess it might just be time for him to get up a little early if DS wakes up before I shower, which he does most of the time...

Our house is so little I think moving the exersaucer or highchair back and forth would be a huge pain.  We have a stand up shower so laundry basket with him in it wouldn't work too well either.  We do have a separate bathtub next to the shower, maybe I can stick some blankets and toys in there and let him play in there!

    Thanks for all the input!!

I shower when they are sleeping. If that is not an option, I can put Leo in the jumperoo in the game room or on the floor in my room with some toys. I just let James do whatever upstairs (all our bedrooms are upstairs), the gate is closed. He will usually stay in my bathroom and talk to me but sometimes he will play in the game room by himself.

  • We have both an exersaucer and jumperoo. The jumperoo stays downstairs in the family room and I brought the exersaucer upstairs into our bedroom. I put him in that while I shower (if he's awake). Then when he gets tired of that I put him on the floor next to a big mirror and let him play while I finish getting ready.

  • DS goes in the crib with toys, because my DD will otherwise maul him. She plays wherever, but to be truthful I don't shower when I have both kids alone because I don't trust DD not to reach in the crib and grab DS. So, I only use the potty, with door open when home alone with the kids. I suppose I'd let DD watch Nemo downstairs and put DS in crib upstairs of I really had to shower, otherwise I've just been doing it before the kids get up, after they are in bed, or when I have the nanny or my husband home!

  • In the shower with me, so she doesn't flip her lid, in her cradle sleeping, or on her play mat. Although I think the play mat might be done for now. I managed a shower last week and was surprised that she wasn't crying. I returned to find that she'd found her way over to a newspaper and was consuming it for all she was worth. Darn, smart kids.
