Oh my god, guys. I'm freaking out.
So, I had my coat cleaned at this dry cleaner. It was the first time we had used it, they did a freaking awful job, so I called the complain. The woman was rude, told me she didn't care that we weren't coming back, she had more customers. So, I trotted over to Yelp and wrote a bad review.
The owner has harassed me ever since. He has messaged me multiple times and when I block one of his accounts, he creates another to message me. He is threatening to sue me for slander/defamation, says that he paid a website for my address, and he's sending me a letter or "will personally deliver it." My phone has constantly been called by an "unknown" number since this all started.
SO thinks he's full of shitt and he just wants me to take down my review. I'm nervous. This guy has gotten pretty intense and will NOT let it go. I've contacted Yelp, who just told me to block him and flag the messages, which I've done.
So, I googled myself and my city and a website popped up, saying for $40, you could pay for my address. I immediately called them, asked what address would have been given to him, and it's my mom's old house that was foreclosed on. Great news, right? Until I specifically go on Spokeo and there's my home street, city, and a Google view. For $6, you can pay for the digits to my home address. Hopefully, he just googled instead of specifically going on Spokeo.
I'm nervous as all hell. SO says to leave my review up (so do all of my friends that use Yelp that I talk to), that I did nothing wrong, that it's protected under the First Amendment. But, I'm more nervous about this guy knocking on my door. He has been insanely persistent; message after message keeps coming my way.
He apparently found my real last name, even though I dropped the clothes off under SO's.
So, WDYT?
UPDATE: I called the police - she said she would file a harassment claim, but it really doesn't do much, so she'd recommend a PPO. I called a lawyer, just to see what/if could actually happen and he said the probability that he'll sue and that a lawyer would actually take his case is low. He would have to prove that my statements were false (which would mean he would have to have the coat), that my statements caused a customer not to go there, and that it caused enough customers not to go there that he lost a significant amount of $. He would have to have multiple unrelated witnesses (which he doesn't - he wasn't even there when I picked it up) and he'd have to give the attorney a $5,000 retainer. So, it would cost him a hell of a lot of $ in the long run. The attorney said that if I do get a letter, I should just take down the review because to go to court would just be a waste of my time and money, all over a review....and if anything, I could sue him for harassment.

His biggest threat is that he's suing me. That's all he keeps saying - that he's going to send me a letter and sue me.
I have screenshots of every message he has sent me. I have told him that if I receive a letter, I will call the police and report him for harassment and then distribute his messages to his customers. I have since thrown out the coat because it reeked SO bad.
SCANDAL!
First of all, you wrote a review. You didn't do anything wrong.
Second, you need to document all the weird sh*t this guy is doing. Every call, every message. That way, if something actually does happen legally, you can slap him for harassment.
Third, if you're really freaked out, you should call the police. He's harassing you and you feel threatened. I'm no legal guru, but it seems like someone can slap him with a cease and desist order at the very least.
I would save EVERYTHING that he sends you. If it comes down to it call the cops. Someone should not make you feel afraid because you gave them a bad review. They should treat all their customers the same and should have done a good cleaning job on your coat.
That is ridiculous I am fuming for you. I would be so angry. I might drive my happy butt right back over to that cleaners with my jacket and show him how crappy of a job he did. Let him know that if he is willing to fix his mistake then you might consider taking the review down, but that he is harassing you and you will call the cops on him and his business if he continues.
I would call the police. That is not okay. It's is 100% unprofessional and it's harrasment. You had (and have) every right to post what you feel the service was like on the internet and if they didn't like it, then they should be better business people.
Call the police. Seriously, that is not okay.
This I agree! People are nuts you don't want to take a chance.
This for sure!
There is a way to remove yourself and info from spokeo. H did it for me because I have some crazy family I didn't want finding me.
I was going to say go to the police but I see you did that.
That is some scary sh!t!
I would leave the review up. In fact, I would document all the harassment and then edit the review to say he is harassing you for posting the review.
