A friend of mine just found out that one of her child's classmates committed suicide. He was 16. I just cannot fathom the reasons why or how anyone would deal with that. Her kids are pretty shaken and don't understand. I don't understand it either. I just wish I could make them feel better.

Re: Sad
This is horrible. Last year at the high school I went to, 3 kids committed suicide and 2 others attempted it. One right in the school. I just don't understand....
^ I'm very sorry for your loss. Has therapy helped the healing process a little bit?
And I have two personal stories in regards to suicide. One, was during my senior year in high school, a sophmore girl committed suicide after being sexually assaulted. I was a peer counselor at the time (though nobody was expecting or wanting us to counsel obviously), but I still tried to be there for those left behind, and listened to many of her friends expressing their grief. So sad and so young!
And second, my mother has battled severe depression for as long as I can remember. She has tried committing suicide at least four times (that I know of).
I think what makes suicide so hard to comprehend, is because those who do (or try), are overriding the most instinct we humans possess: the need for survival. So to have someone who can do that, leaves the rest of us wondering how - though I don't think we can ever understand it, because most of us wouldn't ever be able to. All we can do, is try to empathize, prevent, and/or be there for those that suicide has touched.
/rant over.
