5-6 weeks pregnant and nervous

hello i am 20yrs old and a first time mommy to be very excited but also nervous, im looking for a second opinion and some hope! i started spotting last week tuesday 4/23/13 went to the ER they did an ultrasound but couldnt see anything because it was to early they took my blood test results came back and it had dropped from 2699 to 992. i had an appointment with my OB the next day wed. 4/24/13 she did a vaginal ultrasound which she could see the sac but no heart beat yet my cervix was closed i was still spotting but NO cramping and NO pain what so ever. she ordered another blood test to be taken thursday morning. took the blood test friday i saw my OB again and she had said my HCG levels went up to 1690, did another vag ultrasound an started to see the yolk but no heart beat or fetus yet because it was to early she had said. my OB wanted to keep track of my HCG levels so ordered one more this morning 4/29/13 results came back and nurse called and told me it dropped down to 690. im not spotting anymore and still NO cramping or pain. im nervous and dont know what to do OB doctor gave me the option to taking the pill or doing a D&C. has anyone gone or is going through the same thing as me? please let me know

  • Yes, I've been through what you're describing and it didn't end very well. I opted for a DnC and it was the best decision for me. I would direct any specific questions you may have to your Dr. as he knows more of what's going on with you.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

  • i did ask a lot of questions but no answers, my OB told me it could be what they call implantation bleeding which was normal, and she did have some patients that bled throughout there whole pregnancy. i just wanted to know if there was a slight chance of it going back up again? my gut is telling me to wait it out but my hopes are so little at this time because im so confused.

So they haven't ruled it a "miscarriage"? If that's the case I would be concerned as to why my Dr. Is offering me options to "end" the pregnancy without ruling it a "miscarriage". Please please call your Dr. and speak to him or her. You need to know what's going on.

  • my OB had said it could be a miscarriage but she's unsure of why my hcg levels would drop then rise then drop again. my cervix she said looked good and baby at this point was ok she could see it and start to see the yolk sac. from my visit with my ob wed. and friday she compared the ultrasound pictures and said that the sac had grown a little more which was a good sign.
  • It's possible you were pregnant with twins, lost one [first drop], the second held on another couple days [rise], but now you're in the process of losing the second [second drop]. I would strongly encourage another beta draw and ultrasound. I'm so sorry.
  • I had my first u/s and they couldn't see ANYTHING. A few days later, they saw the gestational sac. A week later we saw the yolk sac. And a week after that the doctor finally saw the baby and a slight hb. I am 10 wks/4 days, have been to the ER twice for threatened miscarriage, but the baby was right where it was supposed to be. I haven't had trouble with my numbers, but I've already had 6 or 7 u/s because of the problems. I'm not due to have another one for 3 weeks, but I wanted to give you my experience. My T&P are with you and hope everything turns out ok.
  • thank you, but the weird thing is that i havent passed any blood clots or tissue doctor said the sac was still there and my cervix was still closed. my fingers are crossed and i have faith and hope that things will get better. its just so nerve racking to why it goes up the down. how do i know if i have low hcg levels anyways? becuase ive read that some woman with low hcg levels the doctor proscribes something to help them? but im not sure the only blood test my ob looks at is if it goes higher or lower.
  • There's nothing your doctor can give you to help with low HCG levels. I think you're thinking of progesterone, low levels of which are linked to miscarriage. But it is completely different from HCg levels. I really hope you're able to get answers; this is so frustrating and scary.
  • Hcg levels can bounce around with ectopics.  Did they look over your tubes during the u/s?

Getting blood draws testes by different labs can also produce different number if their processes are different.

  • i do believe that each lab is different because when i first did my hcg levels it was 2699 then i swutched doctors and the new OB wanted to keep track so she had ordered me to do one for her. mind you its 2 different hospitals! i did her blood order and it had dropped because of me spotting then went back up then it dropped again. they had thought it was an ectopic pregnancy but saw the sac growing in my uterus so they had ruled it out.
