I may be the odd man out, but we bought a little bath visor. It just velcros on and the water goes off the brim rather than down her face and eyes. She puts her hands out to "catch" or feel the water coming down in front of her so I think she likes it as well. Plus, it was only $5.
I don't worry about it. I think it's good for them. If they never ever get water in their face, it might end up being a fear.
I just dump buckets of water on her hair, and if some goes in her face, she's fine.
This is true. DD1 is terrified of water getting on her face, and she is 2.5. I was always really careful to avoid water on her face when she was little, and now every time even a single drop touches any part of her face, she is begging for a towel like she is dying. I even have a hard time being able to rinse her hair because she is so worried about her precious face. Bath time sucks with her.
We took LO to swimming lessons (it was more of a water safety course) and the instructor encouraged us to dump water over his head in the bath to get him used to the water. I can't stand those sally kids at the pool who are afraid of the water. I just want to shove them in.

I have this same problem with DS1 who is 3. He protests like you wouldn't believe when it comes time to wash his hair b/c he doesn't want the water on his face. It's horrible... I'm sure I had something to do with it since I hate water on my face and therefore have always tried keeping it off of his. Now with DS2 I'm just dumping it on him in hopes it gives him more tolerance for this.

That's a bit harsh, no? Yikes.
I tip E's head back and rest his body in the crook of my arm and dump water over the back. It pretty much stays out of his eyes. Some times it gets in, but no big deal. We've also done swimming lessons for the last 8 weeks, which has helped him become more comfortable with water in general.

Yep. I still have an aversion to water on my face, stemming from childhood. I make sure it's a normal part of bathtime for DS.
