1st Trimester

When are you finding out the gender?

If you're not on the green team that is

at how how many weeks are you going to find out?

my SIL told me about a place that does it at 14 weeks. She went there and found out she was having a boy (and she did so its pretty accurate) and it only costs 50$ (there's a promo going on)

I'm definitely going in 8 weeks!! So excited

Re: When are you finding out the gender?

  • I would not trust a 14 week ultrasound to be right. The closer to 20 weeks the better.

  • Beware the early ultrasounds. I can't tell you how many threads I've seen on here where they opt to try to find out the gender at 14 weeks and it ends up being different at the anatomy scan. I mean, its your money, but I would wait. Also, just because you go in doesn't mean the kid will show you the goods. Good luck, but I think its best to wait until the anatomy scan.

  • DH might not be able to attend the anatomy scan due to his work schedule, so we will probably schedule a gender scan around 18wks so he can be there when we find out. We had to do the same thing last time.

  • I found out at 20 weeks last time, and expect to wait till 20 weeks again this time.

I'm too frugal to pay for an extra ultrasound. If you have to go in early - I would wait till 18 weeks to get a better idea. And definitely don't buy anything till you have your official a/s.

  • We aren't finding out, but if we were it would be at my only u/s, at 20 weeks.

The only way to find out at 8 weeks is with genetic testing, FYI.  At 8 weeks male and female genitalia appear identical.  Check this out for more info.  https://www.baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

  • I'm going to wait until hopefully 20 wks to be sure. At my 12 wk scan there were hints of little boy parts but at our 19 wk scan it was very clear we were having a boy. I think 14 wks is pushing it.

That's good.  It's possible to find out then, but like pp said, it's not a sure bet for a few more weeks after that.

This. At our ultrasound for DD she told me she might be wrong and I was 19w5d. As it turns out she wasn't wrong though.

I wouldn't trust a 14 week ultrasound.  I had my A/S at 20 weeks with DD and was perfectly happy to wait until then to get the most accurate results, if they could see the goods.  I'm glad I waited.  I've read dozens of posts about early elective U/S results that were not accurate.

This. While many chose to have an elective one early on and they can be right- they can also be wrong. I would just wait a couple of extra weeks to get the most accurate result. I do not see the point in paying any extra money towards something like that. Sometimes the baby does not show their goods at the regular a/s appointment, so what happens when you do an elective and they don't? I would rather spend that money on something for the baby.

  • We found out with DD at 14 weeks, but the tech warned me that it's VERY rare to get a good, accurate guess at that point and that she usually waits until 17 weeks at the earliest. I'm not sure why she was able to be so sure it was a girl that early when she usually isn't, but I didn't take that guess to the bank. I was high risk and was getting ultrasounds every appt, so I got it confirmed at every appt after that. I wasn't comfortable sharing until our anatomy scan at 20 weeks.

Spend the money, but it's a 50/50 crap shoot at that time most of the time.

  • I found out at 15/16 weeks with my boys and it was very clear. I am not sure when we will find out this time

  • This is my first so Im excited and want to know what Im having. Most mothers say you should wait till at least 24 weeks and etc but Im doing a 3d 4d ultrasound also but at 16 weeks n 5days. I had a friend do it at 15 weeks someone also at 12 (I wouldnt do it this early) They give you a percentage though so you know if they say 87%girl then there is still a change but I see that as girl. The tech will be searching for boy parts if its a boy so I think you'll be ok just know its not 100%
