When did you stop taking them? I am going to ask at LO's 4 month appt, but I feel like someone had told me at one point to stop around 3 months after... so would love to hear what others have to say! I am EBF, so I wanted to make sure she was getting enough nutrients out of my BM.
Re: Prenatals
Thanks all for the responses. I just know taking them if you aren't pregnant can cause a higher risk of ODing, especially when it comes to the amount of iron, so I wasn't sure. I called my pedi because I got curious and she said it is recommended to take them during BFing, and to only stop 3 months PP if you aren't BFing because the added vitamins and minerals can be harmful.
That's ridiculous. You can't OD on the amount of iron, pregnant or not, in prenatals if you are taking them as directed. I'm concerned that any reputable provider told you taking a prenatal longer can be harmful.
My prenatals don't even have iron.
I don't agree with what was told to you. A lot of women take prenatals to encourage nail and hair growth. If you take as directed, you'll be fine.

You can definitely overdose on iron. I am an anemic, and have been taking iron for years, and have been told by many healthcare professionals to watch my intake of iron through foods if I am taking a supplement. When I got on prenatals, I had to decrease my supplement to a half a pill a day of iron along with my prenatal, anymore could be extremely dangerous.
I found some info on prenatals, and I am going to listen to my pedi, but thanks for all the differing responses. If I am TTC, pregnant or BFing I will take prenatals, but not ever as a daily supplement.

Never said you can't overdose on iron. Just said you can't on the amount that's in a standard prenatal. Now if you are taking a multiple iron supplements that may be different.
